Put a new ballancer on the 283 SBC in my Apache and dropped in a rebuilt dizzy with a Pertronix unit and a new Pertronix coil. Checked everything once, twice, three times, couldn't get it started...then...gave it a little more advance and it fired up.

Of course this sounds simple to most, but for me this involved multiple trips to the hardware and parts stores for bolts, and wire, and tape, and other things.

The old ballancer had rubber bulgeing out and the rubber was cracked, plus two of the three threads were stripped, and it was only being held on with one bolt....I guess that explains why the crank pulley wobbled like a punch drunk prize fighter. Oh yea, and the first 1/4 inch of threads on the crank bolt hole were stripped as well, but cleaned up with a tap.

Copped a great buzz-on at my first beer-tasting event in Fortuna, Saturday. That was my screw-around day, but Sunday returned to more wiring work on the '57 Effie. At some point I'll have the dough for a new central wiring system, but for now I'm cleaning up/replacing bad patches of the spagetti mess 'neath the dash, burnt wire 'neath the hood, etc., just pushin' to have it fired up again for Cruz N Eureka in less than 2 weeks.

Played 2 shows with 2 bands, drank approximately 30 free beers. I know it's not much, but when you get paid in beer, that's an accomplishment. Also, Friday, dabirdguy and I attempted to rebuild his AOd but were stymied by a part that needed replacing. Having never been inside an auto ****** before, I was happy that it was far less complicated than I had lead myself to believe...

  6. hmmmm...lessee....
went and recovered the motor for my A project, consolidated my junk pike, built a work bench, and thats about it.

now i can start making new messes!

removed the last of the 6 volt wiring harness and guages from the dash, interior, took the seats out, all the panels, and the headliner and decided to stop when the last patch of headliner rained down years and years of mouse turds. EEeeeeewwwwww. Those don't taste too good.

Got the finish welds done on my Tudor chop, all the way from the side window to the vertical body seams in back. Relieved the corners but I still have to m***age the rear window into place. My girlfriend wanted to paint my dining room but ended up removing wallpaper, panelling, plaster and lath, supposed to be a simple repaint. Guess which project I'm stuck working on now.

On friday night I put the new pan gaskets and side cover gaskets on my chev 235 and sealed the **** out of it. Saturday from 930am to 1030 pm me and my uncle installed the engine back in the car. so close! but it wouldn't start though. it was too dark and ill just have to re-check the wires. after that I went to see Big Sandy here in Hollywood for like an hour. Then Sunday Morning went to Pomona Swap meet to look for stuff for the 27RPU. Not a lot of early ford stuff though...

dvanecek, don't worry man, I just put one on the floor... :D

Drove across country ;) saturday in my '62 Chrysler NY Stationwagon and bought another 440-engine for my stash of bigblock's.
On the way back I was doing 75, all the windows down, rockabilly blasting from my mp3-radio and watching the fire red sunset in the evening... Damn I really enjoyed that 300 mile roundtrip in the wagon...

Here's what I brought home though, another hunk of iron to stand of in the way of everything... ;)

not much, i wore myself out saturday morning at the swap meet in denver. got there pretty early, it was raining, i ****in loved it!:D had to make two trips back to the car with parts in the first 15 minutes! the best score, first thing i bought at the first table, a swapper away from the pack i decided to hit first, yielded a very nice pair of cal custom 40-40 carb scoops, one had a slight blemish on top from poor chrome, but otherwise perfect, for $30 for the pair!:D i giggled like a little girl as i walked away, really! ok, so they ain't no $30 pair of e&j headlights, but a nice 60's score. then a pair of chrome chevrolet script valve covers for ten bones. a 50's aftermarket cast aluminum air cleaner, i thought it was an old alarm bell till i picked it up, turned out to be a mushroom or baby moon shaped cast aluminum air cleaner for AFB carbs, complete with cast base and original filter element, for two measley dollars! got a 60's vintage snapon top toolbox, big and heavy, 3' long for 60. bunch of other **** too. not a bad rainy day.

finished puttin' the driveline back together on my '58 F100 daily (about 2wks over due, due to the wrong size clutch ordered coupled with my dumb *** and being my 1st clutch swap). made my buddy drive across town to help me with timing (the previous owner marked the wrong cyclinder bank and it threw me for a loop). made every parts guys' day after answering "whats it for" and "what year is it" at each of the 4 parts houses we went to just to get friggin' plug wires.

driveline vibe elliminated entirely this morning thanks to more helpful tips to flip the driveshaft 180deg. smooth as heck on the the way to work today after crawlin under it at 5:30am...

Shortened my steering column and hung it where it needs to be and got all the shafts and joints set in place, including making my own column drop. So now the front wheels turn WITH the steering wheel. I have to admit that I saw others say in the past that they had hung a column and my first thought back then was 'well how tough could that be?' Let me be the first to say I was an *** for thinking that. It's tougher then I thought it would be, especially for hanging one for the first time!

I also got the taillight holes cutout.

Oh yeah, I went to a small local swap meet Sunday and picked up a tach for a mere $10. Now I only need a fuel gauge to complete my dash.

A couple weeks ago, I actually made a 'to-do' list for the car. It's a three page Excel file. It keeps me focused on tha task at hand and gives me a chance to work on different tasks at the same time to break up the monotanty. This thing is working out pretty well so far.

Best weekend ever! I had 4 days off, as opposed to my usual 1. Macungie on friday, met a bunch of hambers, saw some great cars, and scored at the swap meet. Saturday I installed all my swap meet goodies on my car. Sunday I started sanding the vicky down and had a good friend stop over. Had another good friend stop over today, then got back working on the vicky some more. This car was totally painted yesterday morning.

I rewired the ignition system so that my generator would stop motoring and neatened everything up under the dash and back to the trunk. I also removed the top of my carb, cleaned it out and re***embled it after running out of gas and throwing a little sediment that caused it to overflow when I started it. Then, I completely flushed my transmission including the converter to get nice fresh Dexron throughout. After that, I finished making the cardboard template for my rear trunk/battery box. Then, I fabricated the E-brake linkage off the handle and measured out the cable length I need and designed the mounts to the cables from the drums; just need to do a little welding, as the rain caught up to me. I'm working outside, so that really screws with my workflow. Lastly I went to the parts store and scoured their shock books and got a suitable set of rears. It was a pretty productive week, and is going to have to continue on like that if I'm to meet my deadline to have it at the Alter Boys show a month from this last Saturday.

I was out for a bicycle ride Sat morning and discovered a stock 38 Packard sedan hidden in a back alley garage about three blocks from my house. The owner is in Florida, but his grandson, who was mowing the lawn, told me it hasn't moved in thirty years. I left my number, and will be going back next weekend to talk to the owner.

I measured, cut, and drilled the flanges for the 472 headers, and painted the new (old 425) pulleys for the 472. Went through a pile of parts and pulled out all of the Pontiac stuff I'll never use, to sell on ebay. Scored an 2-barrel Rochester carb at a garage sale for 2 bucks that I haven't id'd yet.

Thought alot about starting to Z the frame for the rpu, but decided to wait unti I get enough more s**** metal to make a jig. (Also looked for s**** metal on bike ride, didn't find squat..... I ride my bike to look for stuff around the city, I can access places that no car would be able to get to).....

Tried not to be too bummed that I couldn't be at Mokan, ecspecially after missing the Cheaters show last weekend.....

Well as promised, here are a few pics of what I done this weekend.I started by mocking up a spare body on a stock frame.I will be runnin a I8 motor,so Im gonna have to stretch the frame quite a bit.Well after thinking about all the boxing,"Z"ing, and stretching im gonna have to do,I figured I would just build my own frame. So I placed the body on the frame, placed the motor where it should go, and did alot of measureing. Here are a few pics of what I did,Im not gonna post all of them, cause I plan on doing a teck week post,so heres what I got.

I installed Gross Jets in my carbs... No more flooding!!!!!!!

  30. All the shows in my area got rained out....

So I took the time to put the front end and hood back on my parts car.
Just need to put in headlights, turn signal, tail-lights and bumpers back on...should be ready by next weekend?!?
Now I'll have something to drive the rest of the year, while I work on my kustom project.
