"I know the road well. I grew up near Truman and Lees Summit Rd. Just be glad that you didn't have to go over the old bridge over the river." That was the bridge I was on... r
Wiring. And more wiring. Took me all of saturday afternoon and a few hours Sunday. I'm slow and not so good with the copper stuff. Quick rundown...... Chucked the externally regulated alt and did as I was told to do about a month ago and bought an internally regulated 10SI Delco. Got it mounted, straightened up, lined up, and wired up. Removed one (1) external voltage regulator. Double checked everything. Got theft-deterent break in ignition switch wired up. Double checked everything again. Tried to start car. Nothing. Damn neutral safety switch crapped out. I got mad and pushed the barge back in the garage and it will sit there until next weekend. Dammit.
Finally finished the race season at Chicago Speedway, i.e. worked all weekend but I did pick-up a '50 Ford 8BA for my '29 Sedan. Now that season is over I will finish my summers honey-do list. I will then focus on cleaning the garage and starting on my '29.
The old steel bridge over La Benite? I thought they dropped that one and built a new one? Just so everyone knows this bridge is a two lane bridge built in the 1930's. The deck is not paved, it is expanded metal 3-4" thick. Scary narrow and nowhere to go if something goes wrong.
Tore into some Stromberg 81s and began rebuilding them. Found a sweet little all aluminum 50s desk fan at a vintage store, and hung out with the fam for a birthday party.
I replaced a timing belt on the girlfriend's Subaru Legacy Saturday, and Sunday shot up to Canada to get a 34 Ford frame.
spreaded some bondo, sanded it down, bought some new orbital sanders, planned on installing my wood bed package... took the old lady out, installed new jets and got muh dodge runnin like a bute!
You must be thinking of the one by Lexington. This is the old bridge on M291 south of Liberty. Same type of bridge, barely two lanes wide. They just put a new deck on it. Way too narrow to have anything happen on.. r
Hauled home the last of the girlfriend's grandpa's '51 Ford F1 'parts truck', the funny thing is that it's more solid than anything else I have including a 'nice' example of an OT '72 sports car. Most of the chicken shit blew off by the time we hit the interstate, although some unfortunate Harley rider was behind us for about ten minutes on OH-339 before I found a place to pull off and let him by. I'm sure he smelled like a 'real biker' for the rest of the day. I can't believe they were gonna crush this truck. There's three rustouts on the whole body, all smaller than a dime, and there's almost no surface rust anywhere and the floors are PERFECT. I guess early 50s ford trucks were EVERYWHERE in northern Appalachia when he bought it in the early 80s...
You're roadster isn't cursed Robyn, that's just part or the fun! Call it that or teething pains. Saturday I did a bunch of little maintenance things on the coupe and got the race harness installed. Then on Sunday went and broke it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207403
Hmmm. Nope I'm talking bout the one in Sugar Creek over La Benite Park. It may have been replaced by now... I haven't lived there for 25 yrs
Nothing glamourous. I pulled the ignition system and boxed it away, along with some other miscellaneous stuff.
Finished wiring up my Vertex Mag (look a like), located the squeaking sound (only in reverse) on the Cobra (half-shaft U-joint). Changed the oil in the coupe (A-bone), reorganized my air tools...and thought about a new compressor. The old gal just keeps wheezing, so I either take it out to the hangar - and put in a 240V breaker, or just forget it and accept that with proper maintenance good tools just won't fail. oh...yeah...I helped my wife by drying the dishes...am I a hero or what? "baby I know, I've got a few miles on me....my body needs work and my style ain't what it used to be..." dj
I pulled my 1934 ford truck frame out and installed the rear springs and rearend. It is all just mocked up, and tacked in for now. Not anything much to look at but I was very excited to have it on at least 2 wheels. The frontend is next. CBB
Went to a club-bro's going away party! Young kid going in the ARMY. Told him how proud I was of him and he just lit up. Best of luck Julian! Had a great time. Even had a Simpson's pinata of him. jerry
Finally was able to put my '60 Chrysler NewYorker-project on it's own 4 wheels again after the car being on 2 heavy steel beams on my 4post carlift for months. Had the complete drivetrain and suspension removed in the beginning of the year and I've got all the suspension rebuild again with new bushings and balljoints. Will replace the castiron tranny with a '64 unit, and the ole' stuck 413 with a 440-motor with longram intakes.
Holy shit Raven... can't top that story. Hope you and your (old as me) bones are okay, mine are a little sore from just reading that. Carb backwashing problems? I bought a Nova for $200 sold it for small profit, went a bought a Jeep with the profit... free Jeep! Woohoo!
LOL That is some funny shit man!! I am glad you ar OK can't wait to rub this one in wen. night!! Remind me to tell you my story of running myself over!! -COS
We went to a car show in Straustown, Pa.. Had a great time, although it was pretty warm. Woody bought 2 tires and then stressed as to how we would get them into the 31' and back home? Found a Flea vendor friend, Bill, who was set up at the show selling car related brochures. Bill hooked us up a ride for the tires........Whew!!!! Thanks Bill!!!!! This is an oldtimers show with steam engine displays, and lots of steadfast true auto lovers from model A's up to HotRod classes. We have been going there for years. In the beginning 20 years as flea vendors, and the last 9 years we have taken or 37' Chevy, and now our 31 Ford. Great bunch of folks and lots of good food. This was our 28 Car show we have gone to this year. We have about 15 or more shows booked to go to till fall. Over the last severl weeks Woody has been steadfastly working on the trunk latch of the 31'. He has pictures to prove this is not a weekend task! Sandy Will post pics as soon as I can............
rebuilt the front brakes, new front bearings and seals, and replaced front wheels studs. oh and hit my hand about ten times with a 3lb sledge
