rebuilt one Carb out of three for my straight six chev. and did some cleaning up in my new garage. its going to take about 3 more weekends to spiff it up but after that its going to be my Man Palace A.K.A "the Malace".
I got the motor and trans ready to drop back in the pick-up, should go in early this week. I am getting anxious to hear this thing. I originally planned to do a mild rebuild on my small block, but that soon changed... It turned into a hydraulic roller, late model sbc with alot more power. Should be quite a change from years past.
We drove the wife's 37 chevy on another shakedown run. Came back home and worked on some small things. I need to start insulating the interior. The wife is ready to drive it after I get the speedo working.
Got the wiper linkage hooked up- new grommets and right retainer- greased the new Posies springs on the back, and spent a LOT of time standin' on my head under the dash just wondering who "wired" this thing...Oh, and found some stainless oval head screws at Lowes for the parking lights and installed the hood latch panel bought off ebay.
Changed my radiator,so I could lower my grill shell. I'm guessing it lowered it by 5 in total. The first pic is before and the second is after. the grill is now even with the cowl.
finally got the part in we'd been waiting for. So now we can connect the 6 spline driveshaft to the 10 spline rear end. Spend today cleaning up the garage and our tools. Then got most of the driveshaft cleaned up and ready for detailing. Rear end is going in soon.
Got my new dragster home & fired it up! Thanx Brother Jim for Haulin it with the "BONESHAKER" Did a burn out last nite! sweet!!
junked some old tractors we couldn't sell... since scrap is up that meens more money for my project..
Went to the Goodguys show. I drove my sons 51 F1 for it's maiden voyage 220 miles with no problems. Sat around the show and watched the grass grow around his truck. It was one of the better turn outs I have seen over the last few years so maybe things are starting to turn a bit. Kevin LFD Inc First two are my son's truck, 3rd one is a truck I built (built the 4 door cab) but have never seen finished and the rest are just some of the pics I took. Enjoy!
not much, ran out of weld wire this morning, built a battery tray for the trunk mounted battery in the 53 sedan, welded it in this evening, and got the battery cables thru the new trunk floor, still have two big holes to patch
I got a bunch of detail work done on the Rat Patrol dragster nose. It's for Skeets dad here in Texas. The car should be ready for Bowling Green this June. dwrfab Don Ross
I installed my new master cylinder, most of the brake lines, front clip, front bumper, radiator, fan and filled coolant. Did a once over before i went to start it and found a coolant leak on the right side. Removed the right side exaust manifold to get a better look and found some one must have drilled out a broken bolt and went to far. So i did a patch job. I'll find out in the next few days if it will hold. Hope so the Lonestar Roundup is less than two weeks away.
Seems like I spent most of my weekend on the garage floor! I changed the oil in my 4 speed, bolted up a new oil pan, installed my new headers and ran some new rear brake lines. Also cleaned up and rattle canned my firewall and installed a new firewall pad on the interior.
I went for a ride and broke down on the highway. On the side of the road I took the fuel filter apart, removed the element, and inserted a section of my sock inside it to catch debris. About 40 miles later I took the carb apart in a parkinglot, cleaned it out, and reinstalled it. I let the car set outside in the rain that night for punishment.
Worked on the Rambler. Started building the airbag mounts. Took longer than i thought it would. I really took the time to make it a bolt in installation. I drilled 4 holes and welded 4 tabs to the stock equipment and saved all the original spring brackets and hardware in case anyone ever wants to put it back to original. I am pretty pleased with the way the front turned out.
Installed front bumper and sanded for a couple of hours. Also dug around in the shed and found some parts that I had forgot about. Almost like getting something for free.
1st welded up the f1 steering box and installed it in the coupester 2nd painted the fire wall a almond color and re painted the frame and front end parts gloss black ... today i finished some lose ends on the 56 trans cooler ,new battery, tach, to be continued ...
I have finally upgraded my headlight stands...........during the thrash, simply took some 3x3 angle, and made simple headlight mounts. Finally had enough of that. Picked up an 'A' headlight bar from Grits, cut off the ends, heated them to the shape I liked. Die-grinder to clean 'em up, primer. paint, install. Still gotta aim them and tweak them a bit............. Old look w/o radiator. Start with............. Old mounts........... Just add heat. Little squirt............ Installed............... New headlight location............ . It's something.
I finished the exhaust on the 41, went to the Niagara Dragstrip Reunion and then pulled the front clip off of it to start on that.
