I learned to drive in my Dad's '53 Olds 98 town sedan but I took my test in his just bought '62 super 88 with the 330hp Starfire engine.
Back then they made you parallel park and the cones were shorter than the car.....
I passed but only by one point..
    They were rough!
The guy marked me off because someone stepped off a curb on the opposite side of the street on a divided boulevard, that's not even illegal!
My Dad had given me the '53 Olds 98 Town Sedan but I immediately junked it because it had two too many doors.

'75 dodge Royal Monaco 4 door with a 440 and blown PS pump damn thing seemed like a mile long and handled like a tank. should have failed in the parallel parking but the inspector let me off with a warning to get it fixed before I came back to town :D AND DO I EVER MISS THOSE OLD LAND BARGES!!!!

  3. I took my test in our "family car":

One of these. It was my brother's car, no first gear, had to run the entire course taking off in second. Blew the parallel parking. Still passed. I guess the tester was a sports car fan!

I took my test in a 1971 Gremlin. It was poo brown with the classic "bent in half, fixed with bondo, then bent in half again" hood (pretty much a factory option for those cars). The lady giving the test wouldn't get into the car. She watched me drive around the block and parallel park. I passed, and she didn't have to risk being seen in my car. It worked out for both of us.

A desk. Took driver's ed so I did not have to take an actual driving test. Another benefit to taking driver's ed was you also got your license earlier too.
