If you do go for the wide whites, go with a national brand like Firestone, as 427 sleeper suggests or B.F. Goodrich like I have on my '46 Woodie. Do not waste your money on Coker Crap.

Pete Eastwoods suggestion of 1" WWs on the wire wheels is what I'd do. It would go better with the current paint color and would be good for an early '60s custom look, IMHO. Lower it as much as you feel comfortable with.
Wide whites with sombreros or equivalent would put it back to an earlier period but the color is too brash for that era. I would be very conservative with any pinstripes. No flames and scallops would have to be carefully designed to actually work well and not look like an afterthought.

  4. I didn’t notice in my original post that those are Skylark wires… keep the wires and do 1” whites, lower it in the rear.

That looks much better, lose some altitude, and lose the blackwalls and wires. But then, I detest chrome wire wheels of any kind on anything, so I'd never vote to keep them!
Can't decide whether I'd go for a contrast paint on the lower panels as shown, or a contrast colour on the roof instead:confused:

  6. Mean? To who and/or what?

  7. If it was mine, I'd drop it down a few inches, add 2" whitewalls and DEFINETELY put the original stainless gravel guards on the quarters. And, I also would sell the chrome wires and go with traditional steel wheels with sombreros and a visor would make the top look lower, making the car look lower and longer.

I agree as well. The Skylark wires are pretty but would work so much better on this car with a whitewall, but it needs to be the type of whitewall that is a stripe and not the type that goes all the way to the bead. Could be the little pinstripe tire, the 3/4" standard one, or even the slightly wider stripe but the modern looking blackwalls really aren't doing it. I love the look with wide whites and full covers but I think the wires and stripe whitewalls will match the paintjob much better (plus, you already have the wires). If you can get the front down a bit more with spindles, do it.

I like the paint, and I don't think I'd care if there are some minor flaws in it (if there even is any), it looks plenty good to me. I don't think it needs to be two toned or any crazy pinstriping either.

  10. I'll be damned! I didn't see it at first but I'd still put a nice body-colored visor on it. The kind with stainless trim on it like this.. 50Pontaftersale.jpg

This. The wide whitewalls draw your eye towards the tire and wheel, and away from the bulk of the body.

It appear you have a white or partially white interior? Some panel outline scallops in a matching color would work, and emphasize the Kustom vibe, too.

IMG_1628.jpeg "Am I seeing what looks like tiger stripes/uneven coverage in the paint? If a total repaint is possible (or necessary), a lighter/less saturated/intense color might be better for a car this size, as demonstrated in the various photos others have posted so far."

The paint is fine, what you are seeing is shadows from the trees, and reflections from the windows of a building 15 feet away out of camera view. The interior is redone in stock grey with dark grey pinstripes.

    I love that color.
Here's a rendering to visualize what's already been suggested: narrow whites and lower the rear a few inches.
    Done.

Ok, here are both on one post. I personally like the wide whites myself.... buick11.jpg buick22.jpg

  15. Shave the hood and trunk, add dual exhausts and add wide whites, wide or skinny to your own taste and a Teaneau cover over the back seat and you'll be set.

No 2 tone it looks corny.

But you still need to check;)

  17. I like either of the photoshop renderings as far as wheels/tires but am not really a fan of the two tone. I would lean toward wide whites and full caps but understand you also already own the wires and narrow whites are WAY cheaper as well.

  18. Same. Pinner whites aren't enough to draw the eye there. Needs the widewhites to break it up.

Would be nice to see the wires with a wider white.

As many others have mentioned, just some whitewalls is all I'd do. I like the wire wheels and wouldn't change them. And I think the stance is great too. A lot more driveable in it's current stance than too far down in the dirt.

I was hoping that was the case! No excuse for a repaint then, haha.
I dig the skinny whitewalls, but one thing jumps out at me--like the Lil Nugget truck referenced previously, the 60s-style astros/radirs/tru spoke wires-and-pinners look functions best when the ride height is super low.

I'm leaning toward the wide whites and keeping the Skylark wire wheels. Like Hitchhiker said, I don't think the narrow whites are enough to draw attention to the wheels like wide whites will.

Definitely wide whites and some appropriate hubcaps and lower it, as you can. I have coilovers at all 4 corners of mine and have it about as low as I would go without a C notch in the rear.

I just changed over to 57 Caddy hubcaps. I can sell you a nice set of Sombreros, if you're interested.

  26. I think that will work. You can always try it and if it still isn’t where you want it, swap the wheels out later or something.

After seeing this post, I think a wider white wall (maybe 2 1/4" or 2 1/2") would be better with the classic Buick wires and the paint as is. I still don't see that color with the Cad or Lancer hubcaps.

Tail-draging gives you a rash. Leave it alone.
