In very simple terms, black walls on that car no matter what wheels it has have the same looks as they did when it was new and rolled off the dealer's lot when the buyer was too cheap to pay extra white walls. Nothing is going to make up for not having white walls on that body style. Put gaudy paint on it such as to heavy striping or ?? and it will look worse and not better,

I'd say that the wires are the wrong wires for that body style too though, It needs Rivera wires or 50's caddy wires if you want wires. Those wires belong on an ot sports car with the kit car body on it that I was looking at on FB last night. To sporty car for the body style.

Those wires are 54 Buick Skylark wire wheels. Made for Buicks, and sold by Buick, how can they belong on a OT sports car?

I agree with the Squirrel. Nassau blue on a big ride is straining the eyes. That old beauty from Flint deserves lighter, softer, colors because of its size. It looks like 2 Camaros melded together. It's a classy looking ride worthy to go coast to coast, but that color needs taming. Sorry for the negative comments.

  9. I went back through this thread but didn't see where I was thinking you mentioned that you would be putting wide whites on the wires? Anyway, I was thinking you had made a decision and also remember you asking about shorter shocks on another thread so figure you are looking to lower the rear more? I think those two things will make a big difference personally.

As we all know opinions are like .......s everybody got one.
Happened that I was in hosp. when this began.
I have always admired your avatar ( color )
So here's what I think. The wires stay.
That lower panel treatment, means less blue. As would,,,,,
A 4th porthole placed in the leading position ( given your histtory with the car, nuttin' to it )...
...Just to make for comments. It is, afer all an 8.
And, and, common knowledge, it was decades that Buick would be seen with WWs get you some

Double Dip ( cuz Mrs. is buggin' me about my health )
I wanted to explain that back then, I had seen the Chrysler's style of wires... EH.
When first I saw a Buick w/ wires, my thought was PERFECT.
    Nice looking wheel.

I really do appreciate all the comments, and suggestions, both positive and negative, after all I asked for it. I am going to keep the wire wheels, but will add wide whites to them when I can afford it. I have thought about a different color below the chrome side moulding's, so am open to suggestions as to what color. I am not going to repaint the entire car, once was enough.

I believe BJRs spokes are newer and passable as inspired by those on that pickup...

That puts a twist on what other's and even what I was leaning toward...

    That looks pretty sharp Pete...

I guess its also stance...lower and of course...wait for it...Rubber...if your going to run radials at least get the ones that look closer to the period tires...

We see so much black and white sometimes one doesn't know whats been done back in the day...Myself not being of that time must rely on pics, historical text and you Hoodlums...but this Threads many pages already...I'll have to see how many mentioned similar...

Wow...I think you nailed it...period rubber or not...you also changed the atmosphere from that first pic too...

    You should be proud...

Did you lower it...if not that would still add even more cats meow...and we're not talking huge drop either...your new rubber may have altered stance...did you choose different profiles to the previous rubber @BJR?

The wire wheels are 1954 Buick Skylark factory wire wheels, so period correct. The new WW tires lowered the car by 1/2", they are 1" less in diameter. I was surprised at what a difference it made when I stepped back and looked at it. Thanks to everyone who suggested putting WW on it.

I apologize and stand corrected...the real deal...and pretty darn rare at that...

Again Rims and even tires are one of the most challenging to identify when it comes to period...

The paint and chrome looks wet in the garage...like two different cars really.

That's probably the Sun, time of day and camera angle all playing into it...
