I have pulled several V8's with no real problem. I just attach the chains to a couple manifold bolts and yank it out. However, last night I went to pull a chevy inline six and could not figure out where in the world to bolt the chains evenly to pull it out. I eventually wrapped a strap around it and with help from a buddy, I pulled it out. Now after I freshen it up and paint the car I will return it to the engine bay. I really would like to find to better way than strapping it. It would be much easier to use chains and engine "tilter" to re-install. Anybody have any ideas where I can attach chains?
on a 235, I used the starter bolt and a manifold bolt. I also did the wrap a chain around it thing before.
When pulling my 235 I wrapped one chain around the exhaust manifold. I found 2 empty bolt holes on the opposite side near the front. I pulled engine and tranny this way by myself with no problems.
On the 235's there are bosses on the top of the head. Take off the valve cover. There are 2 holes that are tapped and can be used for this. There's one towards the front of the block and one towards the back. run the run bolts with washers down into these holes and be careful when installing the engine.
i made a bracket that bolts into the two holes that the coil bolts to. one end of chain to it other end to intake / exhaust stud
I just went through this last year and I used the top starter bolt, and I believe it was the second bolt for the header/intake set. Also I threw a really thick blanket over the block to stop the chain from making some really ugly scratches. I have been told that putting a strap around the bottom for extra support would be great, but I didnt use one. Just take yer time, my Pops and I dropped the motor in a couple of hours and we had to drill the front motor plate to match the mounts.
