I'm not going to post his address yet, in case there is some sort of reasonable excuse, but I will shortly if I hear nothing. I've called him every other day for a week and a half, and so far nothing.

I even e-mailed him and said I'd pay him for the shipping when he returns it.

The part that sucks most is that I was losing money on it in the first place, I just wanted to recoup some of my money.

"I might be missing something, but what does the post office have to do with any of this. "

I'm told if a fraud is committed using the Post Office, the Post Office will become involved.

I just e-mailed this to him, does it sound reasonable?

Please get in touch with me about this intake. I'd like to have it back, and I will pay for the shipping. I hope that this is all just a misunderstanding. If it isn't, and I don't hear back from you soon, I will make sure to do whatever is necessary to convince you to send it back to me. I plan to inquire about postal fraud, and will contact a lawyer if needed.

    Thank you.

    you are too nice..

I would like to buy everything you own. NOW.. so you do no more damage to your wallet..

YOu know where I live.. so you can drop it off.. I'll send you a check when you get home.. promise..

    and further..
I'll even park the scotty near the train tracks here in town.. so you can feel like you did on our last adventure..

you know I feel for you.. I have been screwed on a number of deals.. and sometimes.. I still do get taken.. BUT.. I've added the cost of these "raw deals" to the cost of my education.. (and I've still gotten off cheaper than a doctor!)

In all seriousness a call the police in his town might work.. ( I am sure the contact numbers are online) and i would look into the lawyer thing.. maybe just a letter from a lawyer would work..

I would also closely watch ebay for him selling your parts.. (worse case)

but most importantly dude stop being so nice.. NICE GUYS FINISH LAST..

If he actually owns an Ardun engine, that's a $10,000 set-up right there, not to mention what a Barris Merc might be worth.

Are we to believe a guy that owns these things can't foot the bill for an intake?

He lied, and he's simply scamming you for the money.

Do not contact him directly anymore. As others have mentioned, call his local police or sheriff.

I feel badly for you. You wanted to do a nice thing but got hosed. Such matters are incredibly frustrating. I hope you get some resolution.

I sent him that e-mail last night, and I got this back the same night:

    Hi John .....
Sorry about not getting back to you sooner ... I just got back from vacation 2 days ago ....and will be gone for a few days over this weekend ... will call next week to make arrangements to ship it back.
    Thanks Joe

Maybe things will get resolved now.

Live and learn my friend. DONT ever send anything out without cash in hand that you cant afford to lose.(so to speak) . Since you ended the auction early - its not an EBAY issue any longer- just a transaction between two peole that went bad.

Maybe someone on the HAMB know the guy?

I will watch for his name and city on car credentials while at the Syracuse NY show in two weeks. Also, when I check in for the show I'll ask the powers that be if he is pre-registered and if so what kind of car he's driving. If I get that info I certainly should be able to find him on the fairgrounds and if I find him...well lets just say I'll have plenty of HAMB backup if needed.:D

That name looks familiar. I believe Scott used to one of the old LA Rumblers. When I was still in the club he was already out at least 2 years before me and I have been out for a year now. This guy is no longer part of the Rumblers CC. Not sure why he still claims to be one.

THATS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER END AN AUCTION EARLY, EVER!!!!
YOU LOOSE WHAT LITTLE PROTECTION THAT SELLING WITHIN THE EBAY COMMERCE OFFERS. (when someone buys officially through ebay auction, you can then post feedback, and have paypal disputing rights, etc.)

sorry but you kind of screwed yourself.

im the vice president of the Rumblers Chapter here in Los Angeles and scott deveroe a.k.a. bonehead is not a Rumbler nor has any affiliation with our club anymore. From what i know he has some gambling issues or drug problems. 4 months ago he was in a hurry selling parts out of his garage and said he was moving out of town and didn't tell us why. sorry that this has happened, wish i could help you out. but from what i know he skipped town.

  26. I will second this being president of Rumblers NJ. Word to the wise, new person to the HAMB. Please don't cast stones towards CC clubs if you have a problem with an individual. You are casting a bad light on a club filled with good guys. This guy Scoot was thrown out years ago cause of the person he turned into, not the kind of guy we wanted in our club, sorry for you loss. You speaking up here, has rang across the nation and has a lot of Rumblers upset. We have since sent club members looking for Scott and have not been able to find him or his wareabouts. His house has been cleaned out of all his parts, cars and stuff. He has had his colors taken from him years ago. One never knows if someone could have had something made that we wern't aware of. Someone might be so stupid to fly our colors if they rip people off, but just don't let us catch him. If we find him, we'll report back. Thanks with respect, Mel. Rumblers NJ

Here's a little something that a lot of people apparently DON'T know. If you get an email from someone asking you to end the auction early you can do so and still protect yourself. Have them bid until they haev the high bid, and then end the auction early on Ebay and sell to the highest bidder.

This is a VERY useful option that I used MANY times when I used to sell on ebay. Also, this way, you can still leave feedback, they can get feedback, and there is a legal transaction documented.

So, the guy is apparently a thief. Do I send him a copy of this post, or just put all of his contact info on the internet?

Put all his contact info on the web and smear his Ebay name as well as his real name and any other aliases he may have on forums.

things like this tend to get around and if need be go visit his ride with a brick in hand. Of course I would never condone vandalism on someones ride, but then again he is a thief and deserves what he gets so I would look the other way :)

Hey Rhyno, lighten up a bit on the whole NY'er thing. There's bunch of damn good HAMB'ers out this way and most of us ain't crammed into a little city. It's a pretty damn big state and many of us HATE the city.

While it truly sucks that he got hosed by this SOB and if I lived anywhere near him I'd gladly stop by and "visit" for a while. The whole blanket all NY'ers
suck deal is really NOT cool.

OK.....rant done. no bad feelings, just hadda say that.
