One fine day, before I die, I'll make the scene. It's rite up the top of my "bucket list".

lol, that was light. and good natured even...

If you're that worried about your car then maybe park it in the garage and don't drive it...:D

    ouch and touche....

that sounds like quite the trip... the HAMB drags is my one "must not miss" event of the year......

Glad to see you took it the way it was meant, light hearted ribbing. Go have a blast, then you know where you'll be every August from now on.

  4. Has anyone heard what condition the salt is in this year? I check the land racing site and didn't find much.

Taken from the SCTA site ..........

" 06/30/08: Our advance team have returned from their first trip to the salt to begin lying out our courses for SpeedWeek 08. As of this date we have three courses set up. 1 long (5 mile) and 2 short (3 mile). Salt was dry and hard. More to follow in the weeks to come. "

Looks like no motels are available. Can you pitch a tent and camp right there on the salt or close by? My brother and I might just try that route if its allowd.

Its very possible that rooms will be available as a walk up the day you get there. Its been that way for me the past few years and I hope again this year for the 17th.

You can camp out at " The Bend in the Road " for free and shower at the near by truck stop .. or in a room if you know anyone there.

I'll be staying in SLC Saturday night and one way or another I'll be on the Salt at 6:00 am Monday morning ready to work.

Last time I was there I sent out a 5 gallon Igloo in the cars and flew out. (Ya, I know, Puss) The group killed the 5 gallon Igloo full of water each day.

Offer it to others too. Wear light colors......On that subject, I met Peter Vincent while I was there too. He was the guy dressed in all black...... That's when I asked him who he was as he was clicking away on the Deuce I was there with and Ron Jolife's 49 Olds. A guy dressed like that may not be screwed together real well. Super nice guy to chat with in this case.

USFRA World of Speed event. Same classes and rules as Speedweek. Records set at this meet will go into the record book. There is usually fewer entrants but, the intensity is just as high and the organizers will help their guests in any way possible. Rooms are easier to find and the weather is kinder.

Additional side events include the 130MPH club event, minimal safety requirements for street driven cars. You run on a separate course of 1 mile to a 132' timing trap. The 150 MPH club event has stricter safety and you run on the regular race track. The 36 HP Challenge for vintage VW Bettles. For more detailed info please see:

    www.saltflats.com

Last year in addtion to the above there was a vintage motorcycle event and a solar vechicle event.
