When what do you think is asked, then all is fair.

Historically significant ? So bloody what ? When someone builds something screwed up and ugly, does it really matter who the hell he is or isn't ?

Ugly is ugly and this is one.

  2. Yuck. I hope that wasn't a real convertible to begin with.

Yea, it is different for sure, but I think if the year was 1949, you would look at it in a different light, and it was probably pretty cool, their really were very few other customs to compare it to and, that it was kinda a hotrod is also neat, I unfortunately see people do much worse with their "ratrod" shitboxes that have nothing to do with a hotrod or a custom and they have 60 years worth of cars to look at toget ideas,

looks like the inspiration for the thunderturd seen elsewhere. don't mean that in a bad way, either. i don't question what folks did when these were new cars and don't judge their "eye" too harshly. fuck a bunch of haters.

Who do you identify as 'haters'? (that is a word San Francisco limpwrists use, along with 'inappropriate', 'insensitive', and 'brutish'.)
Real hot rod guys don't use those words. Beware.

is this the same car that used to live in st. louis in the 70s? everyone called it "the fordillac." don't recall the owner's name, but i think he moved to florida...

  8. While I can appreciate the intent, and respect the history, it doesn't appeal to me. At any rate, it is not a roadster.

Kind of reminds me of that t-bird inspired shoebox that someone was building here..

  10. I think it's pretty cool! A buddy of mine from Denmark took several pics of it when he went on a 3 month long adventure in Florida 25 years ago!

If anyone can save it, I bet one of you HAMBer-izers could - if the price was right. I think the way the top looks does the most damage. Gary

I am a huge Elvis fan, but my opinion that he turned into a fat, stupid jumpsuit wearing cabaret act does nothing to diminish his status as a historically significant person.
"provenance" in relation to the question "what do you guys think about this" does not apply. It does not automatically make it cool or good to look at.
I "think" it is unattractive in my humble opinion. You know, that "opinion" that the OP asked for.

Not one of my favorites, but just think when it was built it was probably a pretty cool custom. A little work to build a better looking top, some different paint and some minor changes and I'd drive it. Cool history if it's all true.

I'd like to see a vintage picture of the car with the top down and up. Generally speaking early customizers wouldn't have committed that top "error" in styling.
The top actually looks like a modified early, say 35-36 Ford top assembly.
With the back of the top raised and a more rectangular door window opening the top would probably be quite nice.

  21. Great historical car, very interesting build. An example of big bucks putting together a one off car for a purpose. Truly appreciate seeing this important car, don't mind the nay sayers, it is unusual and easy to be unappreciated. Thanx! ~sololobo~
