My car sits "too high", (it sits stock).....red steel wheels....it'll run a low 13 second 1/4 mile (with whitewalls and the spare still hanging over the rear bumper) and their car won't.

  2. I almost always do something to upset the "purests" of one faction or another. I tell them it's a good thing I don't need their permission. And, if they put up enough cash, I'll build it any way they want me to.
I built a 327 sbc for my 57 Ford and used a 461 intake with the oil filler in front and glued acorn nuts to the valve covers and watched a lot of Fordnatics explain to their kids, wifes, buddies that they had a y-block just like that in their ford "back in the day". Then I built a 406" sbc with centerbolt valve covers and an oval air cleaner with a T-bird 406 emblem on it. They didn't know what to make of that.

  7. Alright- My paint is a basecoat with a little twist to it and a semi gloss finish, under the right light it pop's or sometimes it look's dull. Who cares right??? I love it because it sometimes it is capable of making "real paint jobs" look bad. So there are plenty of people asking "when are you going to paint it or why dont you buff that thing out. Most of the time I laugh it off,but this past weekend at the gnrs I had a dude ask me about buffing it out and I asked him "when are you going to take all that billet off your car"? - Priceless! his head went down and he walked away.

I like everything about my car but.....
Latest complaint was this past weekend at GNRS- and from a couple of HAMB members!
Didn't like the fact I was parked in front of building 5- in front of the fountain- car detailed to th 9's- show board out & mirror propped up to see the detailed bottom of car.
They proceeded to go off on my "show car" & the nerve I had putting an alliance member badge (the cool new one)on my motor mount cover.
After they spent 10 minutes picking my car & me apart- I asked where their car was. Oh- it's at home in the garage.
Well- assclown- I drove mine here- in the frigging rain & yea- I wiped it down 5 times everytime it quit raining & oh BTW- check the odo. Yes- that's 15,000 miles in 2 years assfuck.
So- don't like my car- I could give a fuck. If my grandson wasn't with me- I would have wiped the floor w/ your smart asses.
Oh and after that- they walked into building 5 to drool over the show cars inside.
So- everyone liked my car & had great things to say except 2 HAMB members. Go figure.

Some people don't like my 235. Some think It's too slow (they're right). Some dont like the fact that I'm not restoring it as per factory. Some says I need seats in the back. Others think it sits too high. A few even thinks it sits too low???
at any rate, I think it's perfect. well,or at least it will be again soon...
I always thought it was funny how some people talk shit about displays/mirrors/showboards/etc, ITS A CAR SHOW!!! IF THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR IS SHINY THIS IS THE PLACE TO SHOW IT!!!

This does in fact happen, much to their disgust.

The other thing that "they" don't like is that it is a 1955, but not a 1955 Chevy.

    1. That I'm going to fix 'em up "someday".

    2. That I'm gonna let them rust into the ground.

(Neither of the above are true, though. Its just that I have so many in the works at any given time that progress on any one is hard to see to the uninformed casual observer...even other car guys. But, I just let them think that.)

    3. That I'm hoarding 'em.

    4. That I won't sell them.

    (#3 and #4 are true.)

    5. All of my Fords have Ford engines. (From bangers to flatheads to SBF's to BBF's.)

(Oooo...that really makes the street rodders irritated. By their reaction to that sometimes, you'd think that Ford's were originally built with SBC's, and that I've done some kind of sacrilege by "swapping" in a Ford engine. I love it.)

    6. That none of my Fords are Mustangs.

("You oughta put that engine in a Mustang." "You have all those Fords, and none of them are Mustangs???" "You're a Ford guy? You must really be into Mustangs!" Uhh. No. I don't think so.)

My gravity feed gas tank. Blows peoples' minds that you can run a flathead like a lawnmower.

Oddly enough, I get just the opposite about the Ford engines in my Ford cars.

    "What motor's in there?"

    "Ford smallblock."

"Why'ed you do that? (Said with a very confused look.) You should put a 350 in it."

Just goes to show that no matter what you do, somebody is gonna fault it.

I was in building 5 AND I drove my car in the rain all the way up there with no wipers bias ply tires and drum brakes.I had to ask a couple of people myself "Where is your car" . What a bunch assholes for giving you shit.

It's a Holden, is older than them, has no radio, no heater or air-con, no power steering and is powerd by an inline six.

  27. The fact that I have no hood.....always get the ..."lose your hood somewhere"......I always tell them, I'm going on 29 years topless why change now.

    1) Crappy paint (actually, original paint) on a "classic"
    2) A chevy engine in a ford (even if it is a '58 283)
    3) No hood (I'll never understand this one)
    4) Radials (its my daily driver, folks)
