    Hello,

My wife and I like all sorts of history. We grew up with teachers, professors and whoever telling us… “without history, there is no future…” in so many words. It does ring true as history is different for all of us, but family values remain the same for the majority of the folks all over the world.

We don’t dwell in history, but is is fun to revert back to those time when we were young... last year, we watched a show that was one of the best family style shows on TV or anywhere. For us, it was not based in our So Cal area, but I went to college in Northern California’s San Jose and made many road trips all over the SF Bay Area, including Berkeley and the tall hills behind the city location. That ridgeline gave me a wonderful wide angle view of the whole bay area on one of those “clear” days.

My wife and I started our road trips together in 1966 and one of our favorite places was the coastal drive up to the S.F. Bay area for relaxing, seeing the sites and visiting some friends that had moved up there. So, there were many eye opening situations for us to move ahead in our futures, such as buying property or a coastal home in Northern California for the foreseeable future.

This time, it was piddling around in the garage trying to get a handle on our gift to our granddaughter. Being away for college is a good and bad thing. Good in that she is seeing the world through older eyes and experiences. But, for us, it is a bad thing as we do not see her as often as we have had a connection with her. Plus, who wants a set of grandparents during the fabulous college days? Even if it is us! Ha!

So, this time I had started several cool gifts for her surprise Christmas present(s). Each time, it was appropriate, but time and gathering of parts was the hold up. Now, I was moving around to see what was what in my model drawer.

One idea was finishing up an ice cream truck with a Pearl White paint and Raspberry flames. Started years ago, needs a lot of work. Or, a cool Red/White 55 Chevy floating in powder flakes inside of a battery powered lit up clear globe for her desktop accessory light. The mini light string inside could replace the flying flakes to keep it clear and bright. (the small mini light battery on/off switch hides nicely under the bulb in the base...)

So, in order to get some motivation, I started to listen to several tracks from our Mp3 player and out came the theme to the fabulous TV show, Parenthood.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfSXyxlfQ7U Theme song...

    “When we were young
We were small but we didn't know it
    When you were hurt
You would smile so you didn't show it”

    “When we were young
We were brave, we were wild warriors
    And you liked to race
So we'd run to the distant shores”

    “And I can't believe you're mine
    Can't believe you're mine”

“When the night came we would both say goodbye and go
But now that I'm older I'm sleepless outside your door
    So let me in”

    “We are wise
    We are tired of growing
    All of this time
    You and I
How did we not know it”

    Note:

The nostalgia came in like gangbusters and I started another custom model that was one of our granddaughter’s discovery moment at the sandy beach we usually went on hot summer days… A crusty, old Hot Wheels car still in the granddaughter drawer in one of our rooms. The original one stays as is, but this one is new and might fit into the clear bulb fixture. Or we might put in the original one from her toddler days discovery in the sand. Decisions, decisions…
