Classic Rock FM radio. I keep the radio on 24/7. They say it keeps the rodents out, and passers-by hearing it will think someone is working late inside.
Recently discovered that not only am I beginning to really love this song I can also sing along not only almost word for word but also match pitch and tone transitions perfectly lol
Hello, In setting up for a project in the garage, I hooked up the speakers and searched the play list to “The Cure.” This group was pretty good representation of the mode of the late 90s music. Our son was impressed one day when he heard the song we were playing on our home stereo. It was for us, perfect with a little more base than normal. My wife and I liked the sound from this group. He had his door closed, but could hear the bass rumbling throughout the living room where the house stereo was set up. Back then, it was the thing to have three-way speakers, a large bass speaker, a metal mid range and a metal tweeter in one coordinated system plugged into a receiver with a lot of wattage. now, with a twist of the volume knob, the house would rumble... so, either an LP album, or a tape for continuous playing. Then when our son heard us playing the music, he was questioning why his parents liked a group called, “The Cure.” When explained to him, he now had a little more understanding about his weird parents. But his young core group just started the rock music similar to The Cure and it has been a staple of his to this day. but, we had an LP album and several tapes that he listened to when he wanted to be in "The Cure" mode. In the garage, I could not get past the song: “The Last Day of Summer.” I had to listen to it several times at various loud settings. It gave me the shivers to work on my garage counter project, while listening to the chilling music. The last day of summer is a standard item out here in the coastal areas. With its mild temperatures, cooling ocean breezes, and outstanding waves makes for a summer day all year long. Although, we got some rain and are in line for a string of days of more heavier rainfall this coming week. Jnaki Then, I had to stop to continue with more of The Cure playlist from You Tube. Their famous “Lovesong” is a haunting song, along with the song: “A Forest. ” So, it is a wonder I got the project finished without other musical distractions… YRMV
The sound of silence, not the Simon and Garfunkel song I mean quite! I can't stand having a radio or music playing while I am working.
quiet is good plenty of times. i like old radio shows (the Shadow, Gangbusters, Mike Hammer - runs the gamut). i have 2 ipods set up - one for music & the other for radio. a small transistor for local stations within about 12 miles and it gets dialed differently depending on mood. one of my favorite "put it on and forget about it" shows is Matt the Cat & his Juke in the Back weekly musical history show. history of the rhythm & blues evolution to rock 'n' roll. his web page has recordings back to his teen years and through Emmerson College days. it's a gas; all the cool guys listen to it: Matt the Cat: The Only Cat You'll Ever Need! and just because i like the song:
I can't remeber what I have posted on this thing.....I am with HRP. I love Bluegrass. Billy Strings has been my go to lately.
Hello, I normally do not like live recordings. They lose a little from the perfect studio recordings on most groups. But, I had my new laptop set to an old playlist and when I was working on taking apart my old laptop for disposal, (One cannot just throw the used laptop in the trash… The hard drive has to come out and the rest of the soldering has to be disposed by the electronic recycling center.) This Cure song just happened to play past the playlist I chose. “The Cure's debut album Three Imaginary Boys (1979), along with several early singles, placed the band at the forefront of the emerging post-punk and new wave movements that were gaining prominence in the United Kingdom. The band adopted a new and increasingly dark and tormented style beginning with their second album Seventeen Seconds (1980), which, together with Smith's fashion sense, had a strong influence on the emerging genre of gothic rock and the goth subculture that eventually formed around it.” My wife and I…post punk? We were getting into new music and by the time our son was a teenager, was a time when he thought we were weird parents, listening to The Cure and the 1989-90 albums. The music just hit us in the correct way. Jnaki Recently, I was taking apart my old laptop on the garage counter for appropriate disposal. It was beyond saving anything. But, the new laptop sound was so good, I used it to listen and watch the videos on You Tube. The new speakers in the new laptop made the haunting sound so much better… I had to watch and listen multiple times. The screen was a lot better and clearer than the 6 year old laptop, too. The odd thing was our friends, back then, did not like the images of The Cure and obviously did not like their music, either. But, we were not like them. The sound reverberated through our high powered speakers to a house rattling sound… in those old days of the full size house shaking speakers… These days, it is small quality speakers with new technology and a big subwoofer. Now, that is sound... YRMV
