I don't look for much in a driver. It runs, has brakes, (drums or discs) a heater is optional, radio is nice but not needed, quiet exhaust, and it must be older than I am.

  3. I ask the same thing from my hot rods, as I do my daily drivers.. A/C, heat, cup holders etc etc etc.. the hotrod should just look better and go faster.

Thanks. Lots of good info here. Some things I thought of and some I hadn't really. I am considering an overdrive ******. I have a smallblock for it that will get it down the road and while I like smallblocks I've tooled around the idea a inline 6. I'm split right now. Mostly the truck will be used as a driver/weekend warrior really. I don't plan on it ever being show quality or anything. I'd like to know that it is safe and reliable. I'd like to see a pic of the truck sometime.

Weez your right about the doors. I've got another truck I drive now daily and I'm constantly having to shutt the doors twice or better. I know that the body bushings are shot and so the doors sag and so on. Now the defroster messed up the other week so I'll deal.

I'm not a car guy in all honesty. I like longroofs but as far as cars go trucks have more soul and versitility. I've owned a few cool cars but trucks always seemed to fit me better. I don't need a tire scorcher just some fun to drive. After driving mostly junk all my life I'd least like to sit behind the wheel of something cool. Thanks again guys, keep'em comming.

For me, it's important that the paint isn't "too nice" to leave it in a parking lot without fear of dings and dents. I love a shiny car as much as the next guy, but my daily needs to be rough around the edges. It's a peace of mind thing.

Other than that, it just needs to start and run reliably, and have enough power to get out of it's own way. A stereo is nice too, but it's not a must. Still, even AM radio is better than nothing.

Actually having my 58 running and driving is the most important thing to me. Then, good tires, breaks and a cab that is water/moisture and exhaust fume proof. A player for the ipod at some point too. And my wife crusin' in it with me.

Just needs to go and stop, my daily until last tuesday had no heat, 4/100 air con (4 windows down/100km/h), shot shockies, vynl seats, oil leaks, leaky windows and ****py wipers. Drove it every day like that for 3 years like that until the motor decided it was too tired last tuesday. It gets ****** hot and darn cold around here when it wants to but you get used to being cold or really hot after a while.

Now i'm using the bosses truck to get around until the ute is on the road hopefully this tuesday.

My daily driver is a bit different than most folks, since my daily driver is my job. It has to have plenty of power to pull 80,000 lbs gross, enough road speed to p*** Swift, J B Hunt, and Werner trucks and grandpa's doing 50 in a 70 zone, yet still get 5.5 mpg. It has to have a good AC and heater, because it's not only the transportation, it's also sleeping quarters at night, which also have to be roomy enough you don't hit your head when you stand up. It has to have a good FM and XM radio, a GPS to get around with, a CB to keep up with traffic conditions, and my cell phone to keep up with everything else. It has to have good lighting inside and out. Seats have to comfortable because you put in 500-600 miles a day in them, nothing worse than a uncomfortable seat on the **** and backbone. It has to make enough money to pay for itself and support me and the wife, all while being reliable and not costing a fortune in maintainace and repairs.
Mine is 41 years OT, but you have to keep up. I doubt a 41 year old would even p*** for legal these days, and not many companies would let you run one that old.

Now when I'm home, my pickup suits me fine. Gotta have a pickup to haul stuff, don't matter how new or old it is.

Cupholder and cigarette lighter. Oh yeah, and some sort of radio.

  16. great steering, braking, reasonable gas mileage, and starting on the first try is cool....everything else I'll worry about later....I don't drive in the winter or snow, slush, ice, rain, so heat is not a problem....If I see snow in the morning, I go back to bed !!
