That's why all the Merc guys chop their Mercs so that they will look like a Hudson

  7. '49s had a 262-ci Six or the straight eight. Not a bad car. Excellent handling for it's day. Clutch is a unique fluid filled thing. They like to rot the frame rails where they kick up for the rear axle and just ahead of the rear bumper brackets, so check those out. Very little in repop tin for them.

Some more Hudson "cool factors" for you to mull over. Hudson WAS ahead
of their time. The single reservoir/under floor master cylinder has a redundant
safety should you experience a line/hose/wheel cylinder failure there is a
mechanical linkage backup that engages the parking brake once the brake
pedal exceeds about 2/3 of its travel.I was pleasantly surprised to find
tapered roller bearings on the front hubs as my experience led me to believe
that most manufacturers used ball bearings well past 1949. I was originally
skeptical of the cork disced wet clutch, but it has performed flawlessly with
nothing more than regular fluid changes. From what I've heard your much
more likely to twist or break the input shaft than to smoke a clutch.
Overdrive is the key to running todays highway speeds and shouldn't
be hard to find or fix.The 49's have rear axle bearings made from unobtanium,
but are also greasable. If it ever becomes a problem I believe its late 51 or
maybe 52 that the stepdowns started using a Dana 44 axle that is a direct
swap and well supported in the aftermarket.

    Anymore news on your find?

WOW!! all these great comments. Now I'm glad I bought a '49 super 6 for my wife in october. It needs a lot of work, but from what I see in these post, I think its worth it. Any advise or suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately I couldn't work out logistics in time to take advantage of this killer deal. Anyone here the one who got there first? tnrotter
