  1. Spotted this in a for sale ad.
Looks like an old high end build, maybe someone recognizes it?
I thought it was interesting, innovative, way out of the box and over complicated. still useful to launch better ideas

  2. In the street rodder catalogs they sell offset steering units that have a chain (I guess) inside a chrome box, I'm sure you have seen them. I would think the catalog units are better designed, better, wider chain etc... And I bet the store boughts ones would not let the chain jump a tooth as the cover is most likely close to the chain and will not let it rise up off of the teeth. What do I think about this set up? I would not use it, but I would not use one of those store bought ones either. I think there must be a better solution.

exposed chain is too R.R. for me.
The column angle is going to be odd inside the car, with the steering wheel almost vertical.

I’d bet it’s safe enough. I’ve seen pics of chain drive blowers. Sure, they come apart, but not continuously running 5-10 RPMs.
That said I think it was a “part of a build plan “. Ie not necessary, but a “this would look cool and different “.
Like mentioned before about the offset drives (never looked into them) for steering, I’d assumed they were chain driven? If so, the builder just moved it to a different location and exposed most of it.

All is good until a rock gets jammed between the chain and sprockets and locks it all up. Plus it looks like ass.

Let's see.... Billet engine pulleys, Rack and pinion steering, Aftermarket independent suspension and questionable rat rod steering engineering or lack thereof ... None of which is on topic for this place
