Personally I think that the owners are making a big mistake by not having a subscription available. I'd rather look at it than plane Hot Rod, which i find funny is starting to look like the pages of Hot rod deluxe. But what do I know I thought GM was stupid for killing Pontiac.

I would like a subscription for HRD, too. And must admit that the last issue of Hot Rod was one of the best I have read/seen!

  3. I like it , have all of them including the first two. Sent an e-mail to them in answer for input about showing customs ( no ) and asked about subscriptions but have not heard back. I also get Street Rodder and Rod&Custom, but enjoy and think HRD is the best.

I used to have a subscription to Street rodder but i let it run out. and of course now they are catching on and showing cars that are actually fun to look at again. For a while it was a mag of how big is your bank account, not that it hasn't gotten any better at least not all the cars are the same looking smooth everything cars.

Nice magazine a interesting approach. Old school looks with modern social intrigue :)

I also like the fact you see cars that actually were, "The way they were" and not what some kid poorly welded a wrench to the side of a shifter and says thats how they did it.

My favorite magazine. I wouldn’t mind seeing some customs. My issues of Hot Rod from the fifties have customs in them and I've seen some nice ones built recently.

That Magazine came out ten years ago. it was done by a hamber named Aaron Lasky. Petersen made the three issues in '99 but they just didn't get it and didn't think there was a market for it. But they owned the name so.... Then Aaron went on to make Car Kulture Deluxe and sold it to OSR in about 2004. then that brings us to Traditional Rod and Kulture which I'm not sure he had a hand in but it is my favorite readily available mag. The BEST are still Hop up and TRJ.
Frankly I think when Petersen rereleased HRD they were 6 or 7 years behind the curve. and the layout/format is the same thing that Aaron did. I agree that it has decent content and I'll pick it up any day of the week over some of the other choices out there. My final penny in these two cents, is that after holding out so long I'm disappointed that they succombed to the craze after they were so sure that noboby wanted to read about this stuff for 9 years.....but that's just MY opinion I'm sure there's business and politics that I don't understand.

I just started getting TRJ this year. Man, have I been missing out! I did a little happy dance when the last issue arrived! Best periodical ever.

Hot Rod Deluxe is a great magazine that captures the traditional hot rod movement very well.

I don't even consider it a magazine, that is why I used the word periodical. It really is a journal. The research, the photography, and the amazing history they uncover all add up to one of the greatest thing I have ever read.

If you are looking for something to tell you how to build a car go with R&C, Street Rodder or Car Craft (I know, not hot rods but they have some great engine building tech). If you want something that tells you why to build a car, go with TRJ. Every edition is like a shot of car building adrenaline.

  24. I love this magazine, they put in QUALITY traditional rides and give you history and run old photos as well. I love how they do not cater to the scene, they are not advertising haircuts, pomade, switchblade combs and 12inch cuffs in your jeans!!! None of that shit has nothing to do with cars and when I buy a car magazine I dont want to see it. HRD is a real class act and they know what real car people want to see unlike a certain other publication that I know.

HRD is the best mag out there. TRJ and Garage are great too, but I'm afraid to smudge them.LOL These are the only mags I get and cant wait for the next issues. HRD needs to be available by subscription.

TRJ is the only one that I buy....The content and total quality are just something that I have to take home (I will soon subscribe). After I pay for all that quality,I don't have any dough to buy any other mags. Sometimes it's a bitch to have to budget every dollar.

HRD has a little of Hop Up and The Traditional Rodder mix of both, and has created its own identity. Hot Rod Magazine has had several traditional HR articles lately.

Chris,I m amazed at TRJ vintage photography they publish. The more the better.

  30. Call me old fashion but I think the fact there is no availablity of subscription after more then a year of publication is BULLSHIT. Something is not whole within the fact of no subscription availablity. I do not know whether the publisher makes more from the news-stand or from subscriptions but it seems like a possiblity to make more $$$ on the bottomline but limit availablity also.

Unfortunately I see a trend in the fact the regular hot rod magazine is waking up to us traditionalists as a market because of the popularity of the other magazines that have only sprung up after the initial killing of Aaron's Hot Rod Deluxe back in 01'. I will still read these newer fad mags a bit but I do not buy them. HRdeluxe is a good read but it feels fake after all this time has past to read it and take it seriously. The only ones I look for and buy are Traditional Rod & Kulture and Garage. I had a subscription to TRJ but honestly I wisened up to the fact I can buy them alot cheaper second hand then the other magazines. Just my take.-Weeks
