I have to vote for a Falcon. I like my 64 but I would rather have a 63 Tudor, with the bubble roof. A smooth running 6 with an auto would do for propulsion, but a 5.0 with efi:eek: and an AOD would give good economy and enough punch to elude the hoards of soccer moms driving Suburbans. I would have to go for 4 wheel discs, once again for eluding said soccer moms on cell phones. For the body, how about black, with a raspberry metalflaked roof? Maybe some scallops too? I'll take a few. The wheels would be black steelies with chrome lug nuts wrapped in pinner whites. An altitude adjustment would get things down where they need to be, but not low enough to drag the Bellflowers off on a speed bump. Red and white guts would do, along with a decent stereo, and *maybe* even AC. Gimme a break, it gets humid around here!

This combo would work with about any early 60's Ford product. A Comet would be killer! How about a 63 Fairlane? A Meteor! Oh yeah...lets go for a drive...

Almost forgot, for those that get to spend a lot of time hunting parts, replace the above Falcon with a Ranchero!

OK I'll play. My 50 F-1 flathead, 4spd double clutcher, dual turbos, and a 9". Fresh paint and some bodywork, still has most of the dents I put in the box when I was a kid. Owned it since 1978 and still a joy to drive.;)

I've had my '62 NewYorker wagon as a dailydriver some time back. But I relieved it of it's duty because the typical Dutch-weather was starting to take it's toll on the car.

Or a 62 Dart that looks like a rough 'ol beater with a 426 Hemi.

i don't have far to drive and everything is in about a five mile radius from me so I'd take The Jack Calori coupe.

For a family pick I'd go with a '57 Chevy wagon with a healthy small block and a four speed with a gear vendors overdrive.

Another nice thing about the 65 Impala I mentioned earlier:

    Safety.

One time I T-boned a tourist in a rented Taurus when he tried to jet out across traffic to make a green light (dumbass).

Just about totalled his car, and did just over $600 in damage to my car & didn't even alter my direction. When I hit him it was like a tennis ball bouncing off the front of my car. I kept going straight, and he did like 2 360's through the intersection and almost flipped when he hit the curb.

He had a bent frame, and I didn't even have a bent bumper. Full frame cars are the way to go IMHO. They'll drive through just about anything.

There's way too much salt in Wisconsin winters to drive an old car during the winter, not even for a trip around town. I refuse to salt up any old car, even if it's a piece of shit. So I buy a different late model beater each winter and sell it off every spring to drive my old shit until it gets snowy again.

I've heard a couple people mention early Suburbans. I drove this '66 a shitload and it has been great transportation, but it's time to let it go and move on to something else. The fun has worn out for me.

I've had a couple of Corvairs in the past and I would love to have another one. Would have to be a 65 up two door hardtop. I don't know why they get such a bad rap, they're really pretty cars and fairly practical too.

Right now, I'd settle for any of my old cars, seems like everything I've got needs at least a little something to get it on the road. Not HAMBworthy, but I have a '73 Mercedes 220 Diesel that just needs a few minor things and then I'm going to start driving it. 32 MPG and four on the floor, can't beat that.

In December I bought a running '55 Dodge that I thought I'd be driving every day by now. I don't know what the hell happened to that plan but the car turned into a mini restoration project and it's looking like it'll be at least another month before it's ready to drive. I should have planned ahead.

To squab's point and to answer the thread question:

When you live up in the rust belt, you tend to be kinda linear in runnin' one at a time; the weather takes it's toll. The ultimate daily driver is a car you like - when you get bored with it - go get another one. I've gotta be over 40 cars now; I've lost track. DD's have been everything from freebie motorcycles to Fleetwood limos - and lots in between. Your mechanical expertise, ingenuity, and perseverance are the limits.

  13. The ultimate daily driver....... a dirty, beat to hell light blue 1964 "slabside" Cobra, 4x2 webber 289 with black under body side pipes, black roll bar, old wires and bias plys.......:D....oh I'll find it in a barn someday, I'm close I can feel it...

If it's mine and it makes me grin ear to ear every time I go down the road burning gas, then it qualifies.

  15. Sorry fellas but I'm gonna go against the grain here.

Sure Ryan is tired of driving a crew cab truck and that is understadable. It's a big old boring truck, plain and simple.

But I have drivin a specialty car as a daily and it gets old too. And then when you want to enjoy that Specialty car you are actually tired of it cause you drive it all the time. The novelty is gone and you have nothing to look forward to.

Here in the midwest we put our cars away for up to 6 months at a time and every spring when I get the car(s) out for the first time it's new and exciting again.

So.........as far as a car to drive all the time it would have to be something like an Aston Martin Convertable (hey we are fantasizing right):D

SOmething totally different than a rod or custom or classic car. I don't ever want to be bored with my roadster.

I use them all the time and love 'em. I'm finishing my attempt at the perfect(for me) daily. It's a 57 Ford Ranch Wagon 2 door with a 302 and AOD, power steering, disc brakes. It runs fantastic and gets great mileage with a 500 cfm Edelbrock 4 barrel. I painted the entire underneath and inner panels with POR-15 so it doesn't rust here in Cleveland. You can get parts easily, and haul junk, and pull a trailer. I been driving little Falcons and Comets as dailys for 20 years, now. They are great, too. They really don't need power steering and brakes, and even the V-8's get decent mileage. My 65 Cyclone gets around 18, my 65 Fallcon wagon with a 302 got 22 mpg on a trip I took to Florida and back. The Falcons I have with sixes will obviously get 5+ mpg better, but how many wagons back then got better than 14 mpg. 100% down, nuthin' to pay each month with cheap insurance and decent mileage beats a fat car payment any day for me.
