I was given this truck and I am trying to decide if it is worth messing with? I already have a couple projects going but....... I guess if I did anything I would make a shop truck out of it. What do you guys think?

  6. It doesn't look that bad at all, and damn nice start based on what I see where I'm from.
I'd be happier than a 2 peckered billy goat if someone gave that to me for free.

Straight and solid, good windshield, free, no mods for a SBC. Perfect. Piece o' cake.

Do the mechanicals and drive it. Then fix it up as you go.

You probably couldn't touch that truck for under $4,000 up here.

That's easily a $4,000 truck around here, and that shifter isn't cheap either.

Why is it free? Does it have a ***le?

Naw, it's not worth messing with, you need to just bring it to me to get it out of your way since you don't have anything in it. :D

My first cousin has one that body style, he put a nailhead in it. I'd get the mechanicals fixed first, drive it then while you do body work....

Wow I would totally keep that! All though I've been called a car hoarder myself😊

I bought one in worse condition once ('55) for $500 and was basically just a shell.. I couldn't p*** on that offer but yours is in waaaaay better condition and best of all free! Any money in to it would be worth it in my opinion...

    KEEP!! 😁

Wow thanks for the positive vibes. Yes I do have the clean ***le. I too am kindof a hoarder ha. I have too much sh*t..... a '67 GTO, a '52 3100, a '65 F100, a '66 C10 and now THIS..... and only the C10 runs. Jesus I'm never going to finish anything. But I have ideas!! I need to get to work.

So I have a questions. I'm not crazy about this thing not having a Chevy motor in it but hey it was free. Can any of you guys ID this motor and why the hell would the previous owner have put it in this truck?

Pontiac 400-455 mid seventies or newer, judging by the ported vacuum switch.
Numbers off of the block, can identify it closer.

I think having the Pontiac motor in there is actually pretty cool.

So I started looking online at Pontiac motors and it looks like it is a Pontiac 301 motor. Does anybody have any experience with this motor? I'm wondering if I should just drop this motor and put another Chevy motor in there.

So after looking for information online about the Pontiac 301 motor I'm thinking it is probably not reliable and hard to get parts for. Is that correct? I still don't know why they would have put that motor in this truck..... ?

Does the engine oil dipstick come up over the back of the driver side valve cover? If so... it's a 301. If not, crawl under and look on the side of the block below the p***enger cylinder head above the oil pan, the engine size will be cast in the block.
Why? Pontiac engines are dependable and they respond well to small performance upgrades.
    Nice truck!

The casting is also just behind the fuel pump.....
