Great project start...and talk about a right price !! You are a lucky guy... And at the risk of being to corny...from the looks of this picture, the engine must be fairly hot, as it appears to have a "Funnel Ram" !
SO I finally got out to my shop today and started working on my '57 project and I removed the funnel ram! ha.. The previous owner dropped a Pontiac 301 into it and I am debating on whether or not to keep that motor in there. I do have a question. Can anyone identify this carburetor and would you just rebuild this one or buy a new one and if so what would you put in there?? There are some loose connectors and it probably needs a rebuild but I will try it out first. Thanks for the help. Oh... and what is this silver canister with the gauge on top of it ha?
Hey all. I haven't been on in awhile. The last time I was on here I had just picked up this '57 bigwindow truck. The previous owner had covered the entire truck with primer...including the emblems and part of the windows! O_0 Anyway.. I made room for it in my shop and decided to wet sand the primer off of every inch of this truck by hand. After hours and hours of work I am getting down to ( what I think ) some pretty awesome layers of original paint. I can go deeper once I get it on the road and get the look I want to keep. I don't think there is a subs***ute for hand sanding. There are a few areas of aftermarket paint and red oxide primer on top of the original blue paint but I will come back later and fine tune the look I want. I love the look of some of the oxide and aftermarket paint still there. You can't fake or reproduce this look. There is very little filler on the truck. In fact I am grinding out any filler I find and I will take any dents out and weld in the little bit of steel needed for rust areas when I get to that point. I have a few other projects going so I am just going to get this one running, put some bias plys on it and drive the **** out of it. I am currently figuring out what tires to put on it. I really like the look of straight black bias plys but I want a tall thick tire on the back and a medium tire on the front with enough meat on it so it doesn't look silly dropped in front too much. The wheel sizes are15 x 5 1/2 s on front and 15 x 7 out back. There is a truck with Firestone 6.70-15's wide whites on front and Firestone 8.90-15's wide whites on back. Any thoughts? I wish I could get these in all black but can't find them so I am thinking about going with super wide whites in back and wide whites in front. I will probably lower the truck some but not planning on slamming it with a crossmember or anything. What do you guys think?? Some pics of my truck and some I like..
although if I could find the right all black bias plys that gave me the EXACT look I want I would go with them but these super wide whites look bad *** in my opinion too..
Either "buffed" black walls (all writing removed) or wide whites would work.check out diamond back tires for either one.
You need a 700r transmission and put it together. Just remember it ain't nothing but horsepower and weight. That truck will run with a lot of cars on the street. Have fun.
