What do your neighbors think?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Preacher, Jul 26, 2006.

  1. I got my neighbors to move, had nothing to do with cars, the dad was a total meathead peice of shit and the mom was some ex-fitness champ, the kid was a little brat along with his little sister (i think the boy was 14? and the girl was somwhat younger) anyway the little girl was a screamer, if she didn't get what she wanted she scream her fucking head off day or night, so eventual i told the douchebag dad that his kid better "shut the fuck up" next week a for sale sign on the lawn!

Oh did i meantion that the dad call the cops on me upwards of ten times in the past two years...

My neighbors are cool about it, despite the fact that I am the only one who doesnt drive a Hummer or a Mercedes.
But in the past some lady told me NOT to park my OLD car in front of her house, on the street.
    She moved......

I live in a blue collar neighborhood, so most of my neighbors are as bad as me or worse. The kids down the street race motocross and their dad is always screaming around the neighborhood on unmuffled quads and dirt bikes when he's tuning them, so when the non-gearhead neighbors do get ruffled, he usually hears it before me. My wife gets a bit irritated when I leave junk on the lawn though...

The guy opposite me is into 4-wheeling,dirtbikes and guns,a great guy.The one to my right used to have a y-block powered 46 coupe and the one on his right has a 67 Mercury cyclone big block 4-speed car.So all and all I,m really lucky with the neighbours!!.
I,ve had friends in my car club and others in a well known bike club drop by and my neighbours are real cool with everything.
I moved in 1 week before Austin Roundup 2005 and while I was in Austin the neighbours mowed my grass for me.
I guess I have it pretty good.

I have one guy 2 door sdown into bikes and shoots, the guy next to him is an old friend of mine and he has a quad, guns and a 80's firebird he wrenches on and then another guy 6 houses down has a garage full of motorcycles and a 38 Hudson his dad left him.
Now the old lady next to me I cant do no wrong by her. IM always helping her fix something or mowing her grass. Shes handicapped and up in age.
Theres one old witch across the street from me she is the one. If a tree limb falls in a storm she calls the county and reports it.
Hell some guy 2 streets over had his dog get out and she called the pound on him. She hasnt ever really come at me with a complaint of noise but I know she is that type nothing can be done right unless shes involved type of person.
I have a beat old F250 in about five colors of paint but its a daily driver and my tow vechicle for new finds.
She made it a point to tell me how in Florida where her other house is they dont allow old trucks to set in driveways. (Hint Hint its ugly I dont like it but I cant call anyone about it its legal, so you move it anyway!)
I then told her its a shame people cant live there life's without being bothered by someone with nothing to do but complain.
She was really impressed with that hahaa

Well, let's see. Been riding Harleys for 26 years. I'm a little bigger than most at 6'-2"/260, beard down to her tits............hair to match.
Have always spent late nights, tunes cranked, drinkin'/wrenchin'/jokin'/ bikes in and out. Then I also headed up the neighborhood watch. I was out there most of the time, to keep an eye on things. Anyone could drop by, and I'd be there with open arms and a cold one. Things ain't changed, except the hair color.
Just moved into a new place 2 years ago, in the back of the cul-de-sac. Neighbors? Couple next door have us over for coffee and cake. I take care of trimmin' trees when they need it. Mend the fence, their dog comes over to play with ours. Her husband is disabled, so she knows if she needs anything, she has my number.
Neighbors on the other side, fine. We wave and share 'hello's'.... The kids speak better English, than the parents. Only had to go over once and ask them to turn the tunes down. 1a.m., and my bedroom is right next to their place. Never had issues since.
Couple directly behind, he's an old tattooed scotter rider from years ago. We do great. He doesn't visit enough.
Directly behind me, very friendly house full-o-mezicans. They have one designated english speakin' dad. We converse and exchange pleaseantries.
Brought the '33 home last year, and it drew out a neighbor down the alley. He visits, has a brew, heads home. He brought home a very clean/straight '55 Bettle. That is his project.
Guys are constantly droppin' by in their cars, or on the bikes. We have 'He-Man' meetings everyother Thursday, and the bikes pack the driveway or cul-de-sac. Word is that I keep enough of an eye on things, folks overlook the occasional noise issues. When the dogs go off, I am usually out in the alley, to find out why.
Anyway, folks mostly keep to themselves, and we have no issues. Oh yea, I own the house that the last pres. of the neighborhood assn. owned, and he is also a past city councilman, and live 2 doors away. Nice old guy. So I pop in on association meetings, just to keep an ear to the ground. They like that part.
Ride safe, build stuff, and have fun.

On one side no one has lived in the house since i took over my buddys garage(a year ago). The people on the other side are complete drunks. They could care less what I do. Even if I'm grinding something it is still queter that the Quet Riot tape that is continuously blaring on thier backyard stereo. I also think that they are scared of my rotty, even though he is the nicest dog in the world. Plus the guy across the street has between 6-8 cars that he is working on at all times of the day.

The other day I had a neighbor mention what an eyesore the pop up camper was across the street. I said, " ya know it's been there so long I don't even notice it." Then it seemed like he went on and on, in an attempt to get me to say something "bad" about it. Finally I told him, "Listen, I only mess with people AFTER they mess with me. That old lady across the street hasn't given me a moments grief in 35 years I've been here. I don't give a crap what she has parked in HER driveway."
Finally (I think) he got the point.

I coated my garage floor yesterday and my next-door neighbor, a Philly police detective, let me store all my motorcycles and scooters in his garage.

    Not bad.

PS: Preacher, I would have moved in next to you if I saw that car show in your driveway.

  13. I think the neighbors in this new neighborhood don't really mind but I personally couldn't care less. I've already paid the price to be me.

See...now we are in the middle of buyin a house, and I gotta say....if I rolled into that neighborhood and knew that someone like you was to be a potential neighbor...that would be a HUGE selling point to me.

I've been blessed with cool neighbors, one beside me keeps her yard immaculate . . . but she's got an old '61 Falcon she keeps hiding in the garage that she got on Ebay a few years back. My neighbor across from me has old truck, workshop, tools . . . pretty cool guy. His son does autobody and upholstery work. The guy behind me has a bracket racer. The other guy behind me (offset lots) has an 8 foot privacy fence . . . he put it up after my other neighbor moved in with all their kids yard toys, pop-up camper . . . etc. This Friday I'm getting another project car in the driveway . . . but they all know the drill. I've had 16 different vehicles so far in the driveway at one time or another . . that's weird to think about. :)

  16. What do your neighbors think?

Probably that I'm an idiot with a bunch of junk.

    They're probably right.

    .

  17. My 'burb has about 20,000 people, and virtually no car scene whatsoever. A few muscle cars, 'classics' and sports cars (plus one guy who collects micro and mini cars), but the only hot rod types in town are 392 Hemi and me. Despite that, people in my neighborhood are pretty cool about it.

I started a thread a while back where I mentioned my neighbor lady who complemented my "cute dune buggy." That pretty much sums up the locals here - friendly, curious, but totally clueless about hot rods. I'll stand there and try to explain, to no avail.

  18. The apartment complex that is behind us cut down a line of wild GA pepper trees that blocked the tenants view of my yard... Now they get to enjoy watching me pee behind my shed when I'm too dirty to use the indoor plumbin'.

As soon as my neighbors start making my house payment, I’ll start caring about what they think of me.

  21. Heck, I wish my neighbor's yard (or even mine, for that matter) looked as cool as yours!
BTW, the house next door to mine is for sale!

Only share one property line w/ a neighbor...got 2 1/4 acres. He's got a Triumph Daytona, a porsche 914, and a VW Vanagon w/ a Subaru WRX STi mill in it...so even though he ain't into old rides like me, you'd think he'd be cool, right? NOPE. Can't even get a wave out of him...devout Mormon, only time he talks to me is when he needs to tell me about what he percieves as something I'm doing wrong.. I put up a fence, he called the cops.."yes, officer, there's my permit right there in the window" I'm dumping lawn clippings at the back of my property, he tells me it's his land because he's been mowing it for years. Sorry about your luck, but there's the property marker, I just bought the place, let ME take care of it...you don't need to mow this part anymore. Only other time he talked to me was when I was painting the house "Looks nice, you fixing it up to sell it?" "Naw, I'm staying for a while" shoulda seen the look on his face. Now I've just given up on trying...wonder what he thinks of the new horseshoe pits 10 feet from the line? I've also started grinding in the driveway, just to irritate him a bit...oh well, I don't have to live with him, just beside him.

Well, let's see....I own two houses. I live in one, and store all of my junk at the other one. I live in the village, and the only neighbor that doesn't like me is an old bitch that doesn't like ANYONE. My storage house is out of the village, and the most intimate contact I've had with my one neighbor there (whose property borders mine) is waving at each other if we happen to be mowing at the same time, so I guess I've got it better than some of you.

  24. My neighbors are great...the day I showed up with a Hillbilly Hotrod caravan of wreckers, trailers and all my 41-46 trucks, parts, ect...my next door (retired) neighbor was in my back yard tellin me about when he had one...you know the drill...and has came over periodicly since with help, a couple beers...just to see where I am with my panel truck...Gotta love it!
that nice boy with the old trucks,
who mowes his yard every week!

  25. besides the fact that my niebors 13 year old kid can't come to grips with the idea that what i drive is actually a car they pay me no mind.. Luckily but unluckily some ghetto ass shitheads moved in on our corner so compared to them i'm a model neibor.. my one neibor told me he'd much rather listen to the blat of my T than the mix of honda muffler noise and reg-gay tone (i hope i spelled that wrong).

but all in all i'm pretty respectful.. I don't drive my car earlier than 8am or later than 9pm. i also try to keep things quiet in the shop during these hours as well.

I'm cool with most of my neighbors. All except for the capital B Bitch that lives kiddy corner from me. Her husband mows his lawn about once every half hour, so I guess he doesn't like her much either. I was told you can always tell who has the worst marraige cuz they have the nicest lawn. Anyway, I'm out in the driveway on a Sunday, 6:30 at night, so it's early. i'm breaking in the cam on my Model A, or at least trying to...it had some issues (bad gas, timing off). So after starting it up a couple of times and having it quit on me again, I hear from across the road "Okay, that's enough now!" She can kiss my ass. I stopped that day cuz I couldn't get the damned thing to work with me anyway, but I swear, the next peep I get out of her is gonna be rewarded with a 3am tire blazing, open header burnout.

one races crotch rockets on road courses
one is mostly deaf and blind

I am certainly hoping that the neighbors don't ever say anything, or worse, do anything about the crappy ol' Corolla I have in my side drive for the engine and tranny swap. My neighbor on that side has his home up for sale presently, and I have seen a ton of people come and go as they look it over. The realtor has not said anything about my tudor or the donor car out in the drive, and never said a word about me grinding, painting, sanding, removing items from donor car, etc.

I am hoping the local cops don't get any call about the non-tagged donor car, but I can always push it into the garage if it becomes a problem. No one said anything to me about all the sparks flying when I was grinding recently, and no one mentioned anything about the sound of my compressor running. However, the fellow selling his home is a cool 80 year old who loves to chat about old cars (even gave me several pictures of cars he had owned over the years). I hope his home sells soon and the new neighbors are not asses when it comes to living next door to someone like me. The couple on the opposite side of my home are spooky. They sit and stare all the time, but have yet to have said a word, one. Even if I say hello and wave at them, they sit there like Ken and Barbie dolls, and say not a word. Their yappy dog pisses my dogs off at times, so they get into barking contests with each other.

Any rate, I live in a really nice neighborhood, and most all of the folks are really people who don't care about a street rodder, hobbiest, restorer or
whatever, as long as the noise is not a real problem. I don't work after dark, and I start at a reasonable time in doing anything that may wake someone up.
So, everything is cool at the moment.

Wanna' have a really bad day, then live in a home owner's association neighborhood and try to have a hot rod hobby or an old car hobby. I pity anyone who has to put up with the snobbish, know-it-all, "I am better than you" type of living that the folks who run HOA's seem full of. I tried that one time and I'd never, never recommend anyone purchase any home that is associated with a home owner's association.

Any rate, the old Corolla P.O.S. is up on blocks in the drive, and no one has said a word so far. I sure hope it stays that way in the future. Gonna' really be interesting when the engine, tranny, and rear end get pulled from the donor car.

Think my neighbours here in manchester, england love me. We had some engine troubles leading up to our dragster's debut event so we spent the entire week in the garage until friday night everything was ready. We still hadnt been able to check whether the gearbox was ok so we decided we had to fire the car to decide whether to go to the track or not. So, at 10pm on the friday night we fired her up, checked the engine over and the gearbox. Dont think the neighbours are to keen an a 302 ford on alky, nor the local police station just 100 metres across a field at the side of my house!!!

  30. Our neighbors tolerate the hunks of rusty metal that show up on trailers from the fields of Montana. But Montanans as a rule are cool, we live around a mix of old and a few younger families. If you are not an ass you end up meeting neighbors like this guy

He keeps mostly to himself, but he spotted a 39 merc I was parting out and stopped to talk. I never would have known he had flattie and harley stuff burried in his garage. He has some great stories and he makes a mean crown and coke.
