Ok. Just realized I have this GM bellhousing that is obviously for a sbc /or the common GM pattern. For what ever reason I just thought it was a small flywheel 153tooth housing like on the straight sixes at times.Until I noticed at the 7-8 o’clock position it has the throw out lever arm and a cable hole mount for it. Squirrel where are you ?
looks like Vega and Monza to me, the location of the pivot ball says cable pull so it is not a chevy 2
Yep! I believe your right. I didn't notice the piviot ball location at first. It also has the oddball transmission bolt pattern. Not the standard pattern for Muncie or Saginaw transmission.
Next question could that be drilled for a standard trans pattern? Once I saw this I thought there are some days on really tiny engine bays and weird swaps that this ( has I known ) would have simplified a lot of clutch linkage issues. I seriously didn’t even pay attention I’ve had it at least 25 years maybe longer. We went automatic a lot of times in small stuff not because we wanted to but because it was easier. This is bringing me to realize I Probobly need to start letting some stuff go. I can honestly say it would take 5 maybe six semis to hold all of my stuff (just parts alone if I had to move it. )
Was the Vega engine bellhousing the same as all the others? I knew the monks came with the small ci sbcs some but didn’t know if the Vega actually did as in off the line. Just asking.
yeah, I may have mis spoke when I said vega.... there should be a casting number on it, that will ID it exactly
On eBay there’s one listed for 4 cly and the cable and folk exit is at 9 o’clock looking from the back.
I didn't see this thread earlier...I was driving around in an old red car. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235259274678 looks pretty similar. I found this by searching for a V8 Monza bellhousing. Looks to me like the normal Saginaw/Muncie transmission bolt pattern?
Spend the extra green on the Chevy II piece, not cheap but at least you won't have to say Monza under your breath when someone asks what the bell housing is out of.
Might be smart to keep. I wished a had know I had this a few years ago. It would have been a simple fix for clutch /4 speed deal in a very small engine compartment we were fighting with. We went auto because of it. This would have worked I think. Thanks for all the info. I knew the Chevy II bell was different and was mech linkage etc but the weird throw out angle and the obvious cable /rec hole kinda threw me. Again as usual you guys rise to the occasion.
