My first wife didn't have much interest, the second feigned interest until we were married and then didn't want me to spend any time in the shop or on cars unless it was fixing the kids car, then, somehow, it was a good idea.
Wife number three isn't into cars like I am, but she does have some interest, enough that she wanted a shoebox ford (pictured to the left) that still needs some work to be a driver. I am hopefully getting the 38 Chevy that I have had since the 70's on the road this spring and then back to the 49 Ford. What really helps is that she wanted to learn to weld so we took a welding class together, then she got into metal sculpture and that was a win win for me, we have far more metal working tools now than even I would have purchased. She is probably better at welding than I am:( What ever the case it is usually I that says, "time to pack it in, it's getting late" in the evening. I guess the third time was a charm:)

My wife likes old cars of the fifties, "you know those that have lots of crome on the dash," as she puts it!

  3. My wife loves it, but does get annoyed sometimes when I am busy wrenching.

Her at one of the car shows:

  4. Cars or bars? "I'm glad you love cars, honey" We've been married since '76 and after close to 300 cars, she never once complained when I dragged one home.

She is ok with it, more so since the belair is "hers" but like mentioned before, she sees beautiful mercs at shows and wants one of those... At least she's got good taste...

My wife loves everything about this car hobby heck she has her own Deuce coupe. She's been across America and back in our roadster in pretty hot weather with no AC Hot Rodding together has kept us young. She named out lakester the Mistress and had the name painted on the car she loves every minute of everything I do with cars.

Married my wife in 76, now 38 years. She always liked the old cars but not so much the time spent in garage and at friends working on theirs. My twins would have come home from hospital but her Mom insisted on the car with A/C. The girls spent quite a lot of time early on riding in the back of a 48 Plymouth woodie wagon and all the other live cars I had over the years. Our son rode in my T bucket when he was a young kid as well.
I'm down to only two or three swap meets a year now so she's waiting for a ride to be done.

My first two wives hated the cars. They are long gone now. I figured I'd never find one that could understand our "infatuation" with old cars BUT..... I retired a little early and my Dad (R.I.P.) says, "next time you're up here there's someone I want you to meet".
Becky lived next door and was workin' on her fence with wrenches and a drill motor. I tried to help but she finished up without my assistance.
A week later she gave me a ride to Sac Vintage Ford for some king pins. She walked the whole store fascinated and asking intelligent questions...(Hmmmm). She bought some Tiki glasses, oh oh.
I'm thinkin' she's 12 years younger and she has 3 kids, I've been a single guy for 20+ years, I just retired... yikes.
Four years later, here we are, blissfully married, living on a 5 ac. ranchette with a big house and a nice big shop. She drives my '55 F-100 and my '31 Tudor whenever she wants.
Last month at Turlock she found "her hot rod" a clean '62 Corvair Monza - she loves it! We got my stepson a '64 El Camino and he and I went thru the motor and stuff together. Three more projects are in the works, including the Willys PU I my avatar. We've got vintage ski boats and a vintage travel trailer. Now she wants to learn how to weld to do some metal sculpture projects she designed.
She and the kids took to this old car life like ducks to water! (Whew)

Been with mine since H.S. She was 15 and I was 16. After 35 years, She has said on numerous occasions when heading to cruise night, that she's seen enough cars to last her a lifetime. Consequently, she doesn't go as often as she used to, but lets me enjoy. She knew what she was getting into!

We spent our honeymoon in the back of a pickup at Bonneville in '72. We bought a '34 Buick coupe the day our daughter was supposed to be born(she came a week later) and I have been building a lakester in our basement for the last 12 years. She says she knows where I am.

  14. We'll be married 40 years next month. She is good at listening to me tell my dreams about what I'm building and gives valuable input about colors, styles, etc. After is all said and done she can't tell me the make and model of our rod that we have been driving for almost 15 years. She is very good at setting up our vacations around the shows that we enjoy going to and God help anyone in the family that schedules anything for Back to the Fifties weekend. I can't imagine the world without her support of my hobby. Her hobby? She reads romance novels while I drive!
I am so fortunate to have found the right woman (hell we were babies) on the first try!!!!!!!!! Did I mention that she bought me a 56 MGA for a wedding present? It still sits on the shelf, taken apart, she has never gotten a ride in it.

When we met in 1974, she was driving a lifted 4-wheel drive Blazer with a four speed. Been one hell of a ride since we were married in 1976. Fun, fun, fun. . .and maybe I should buy her a T-Bird for our anniversary in August. Supportive would be an understatement, she's always there to help with her encouragement and CHECKBOOK! I am indeed, a lucky guy.

    ^^^ Now thats funny:D

My wife is very tolerant of all the time and money I spend on my cars. She is quick to let me know if I am getting close to crossing a line but it is working so far. Married almost 11 years and been together, for the most part, since high school. She broke up with me more than once with the statement "You love your car more than me!" Back then , she may have been right :) But I grew up and now we have a good balance.
She loves the road trips. Her Dad has a 68 Mustang that she spent a lot of time travelling in to different car shows all up and down the coast in Canada and the USA.
We have driven our old OT VW Bug to Reno for Hot August Nights twice. She cant wait to do the same trip to HAN in the Tudor and wants to do a familly trip to Disney land in it eventualy (of course there will be some cars shows hit in that trip as well)
So all in all, I think I am a very lucky guy!

Wife and I going steady in our 42nd year of marriage. My favorite picture of her (at 16 years of age when we were dating) has her putting a hi-rise intake on a 327. She knew what she was getting into since my father, brothers and I always had car projects going. With us its lifestyle more than hobby.

My wife is very supportive and helps with the detail and sheet metal fit on 40's She is also the color person for the ext and int and the money tracker. She recently went with me and supported me buying another 40 coupe (she actually bought it) to keep me occupied. Only issue is when I spent too many hrs a day at it.

I get mixed signals. She says she hates it but enjoys Back to the 50's. Says swap meets are not her cup of tea but has sold at Jefferson with me and had a riot walking around. She is good for a couple of cruise nights per summer but for the most part, doesn't really give a shit.

I have two hot rods and my wife thinks that's two too many...

  26. Mine knew what she was getting. She even got me a special cake at out wedding with a car on it! She is glad it makes me happy and she likes that my hobby is not drinking at the strip club. I help her more with her hobbies than she helps me, but she still gets out and will get dirty if I need her to. She tolerates me stopping and talking to people, buying rusty stuff and the constant horse trading I'm always doing with parts. I am a very lucky guy!

My wife is as much into it as I am, when building the last car, she picked the color, and the interior design.............She has her own 38 Chev sedan, that we have driven cross country more than once. I am lucky that my daughters also have the disease and own their own rods as well, makes a trip to a show a family outing and that is a great thing. I consider myself one of the lucky ones!

We have gone our own ways but not on bad terms, she still goes to events and loves cars. She hangs with my family (My mother is a dyed in the wool Hot Rodder) down in Victoria, my sister has her own car and they go to more car events than me.
I may not be a Casanova but the few serious relationships I have had were with women as into cars as myself.
I guess it's a consequence of growing up in the 'car culture', have never known any better!
