    Hi guys.

While at a yard I saw this old V8.

I have no idea what it is but I believe it is out of a truck.

Does anyone know what engine this is?

    Thanks.

    Alex.

    I'd like to know too.

2 center bolt valve covers, rear distributor, deep heads, and odd fuel pump makes me think olds. I googled 303 324, 371, and 394 olds engine pics and the heads look similar but definately not the same (from the pics I saw).

I looked at those too because of the valve covers but the exhaust/spark plug area looks different on the google pics of 239, 272, 292, and 312 that I found, like this 292.

and if it was out of a truck, I think 292s had a front exhaust crossover.

Paul's right, AMC. It's a leverite. "Leave 'er right there!" No parts availability, no go, weren't any good when they were new. Boat anchor.

I'm pretty sure this is a Rambler V8. I had one a few years ago. It was a very sound running motor. Nothing to write home about, but was different. You can get parts for it. Lot's of them out there as they shared alot of the same exact stuff as the AMC/JEEP line. I would take it in a heart beat....very unusual and would have people talking.

I think so too. 287 or 327. leverite. Good expression and incidentally probably good advice

    Paul nailed it.

  15. Nash and Hudson could be had with Packard V8s for one year before this motor came out (in '56 I believe) and they used it up to about 1967, it came in like a 250-CI and the 327 CI versions. They had the torque tube drive like Buicks use.

Rambler's automatic in the late 50s was sourced from Borg Warner (the same as used in Studebaker and 57-8 Ford cars a**** others) so it may be possible to build a trans that lets you use an open drive with it - but it's sure a lot of work.

I think International's(binders) used the same looking engines, Henry.

Lots of engines look similar in that they used two studs to hold on the valve cover. It's still an old Rambler motor.

If anyone wants it, send me a private message and we can organise a good deal. Maybe a trade???

I can ask if it comes with a Trans too.

There are quite a few other engines there and shells from old cars.
I havnt looked at them but next time i do ill take photos and if theres anything good ill post it up.

    Thanks again.

    Alex.
