Thinking about using a set of coils on the back of a 60s styled hot rod. The set I have are a coil over a standard gas shock. Like what you would use on a 4 linked door slammer. Is it appropriate for the 60s hot rod? Excuse my ignorance... I just wasn't around back then.

We're still waiting on the era to come round, I think.

Some are well done but I don't think they are popular to most traditionalists.

  4. The Ala-Kart has coils in the rear. At least that's the way the old model kit builds up - any earlier examples than that?

GM went to coil spring suspension in 1958.
Hot rodders started thinking about coils on rods not long after.

  7. I'd say in the 60's. Roth used coils on lots of his builds. Front too!

I think when the first coils were put on the fron they were swapped out to the rear. I saw a car that I cannot remember the name of built in 1958. I think Barris built it..It was a real turd but had rear coils. Not coil overs but coils on the rear axle and frame. Pretty crude but looked ok....
