Did any of the cars from those molds ever get built? I remember seeing one on display at a show somewhere? Then ?

  2. A gent here had a Winfield nose, it was crap. He spent the money to fix his steel front end then got hit by a car sliding across an intersection. DOH!

Unfortunatly it wiped out his Winfield Chrome "California" grill. That was a nice piece.

  3. same here a guy bought a top for one (carson ) and it was so bad they spent alotta time fixin it and went after the guy in the desert for $$ back..........

I saw a complete, painted car in Phoenix around 2001 that had a Winfield glass body. The car didn't particularly appeal to me, but I wouldn't have known it was glass if the owner hadn't told me.

Don't know much about quality etc though..
    Anyone else heard of them?

    Info to the above

I also think Bill Wolve's 1950 Mercury "recreation" was made using one of Gene's bodies.... not 100% sure though

And Gene has a few more in progress in his shop.

I also think Gene Recreation of the Solar Scene is done in fiberglass

I think it was Bill MacKenzie in AZ had a gold one.

LIFESTYLZ, I saw one at a swapmet earlier this year and I wasn't too impressed, don't know if it was the one you are referring to.

Hell that Merc w/ the 40 Ford lights looks wild!
    Is Gene buildin it?
But theres something i have to ask.
Why are these acceptable to you guys while a 32, or whatever, glass body is (mostly) rejected?
Not being a dick, there might be something im missing.

There is one in Switzerland, well done, but terrible around windshield and back glass: Glass is glued and there is no chrome molding.

I believe they are `37 headlights and it's being built in Devils Lake North Dakota.

Merc2.jpg I have a P and J. 1951 mercury built on a 1949 mercury chassis. I have been doing some looking around and this is the only place I find any mention of them sorry to bring back a old post just wondering how rare these cars are.

Rare and glass repro are opposing concepts I have difficulty reconciling.

i have always found the steel vs glass idea pretty dumb. a person hauls a rusted to shit steel car home and spends hundreds of hours and dollars to fix it, but finds some body work on a glass car a deal braker. i just don't get it!!

I would use some fiberglass parts if I could find them, I am waiting to hear back from Gene Windfield . I met him back in `89 at Davenport LeadSled Custom Car show I had used fiberglass quarter panels in my `50 that were quite thin , a guy working in a body shop in Il made them. They worked and looked pretty good until the fenderskirts were tightened on, this made a slight but irritating dimple on the lower fiberglass panel. The Windfield panels were thicker I have a set now someone bought a pair damaged them then sold them I believe these are Gene`s but reinforced the back side by bonding a small but long square steel channel.

Gibbons used to make Merc parts, and maybe bodies, but no more. They are selling off some of their molds.
http://www.gibbonfiberglass.org This is on their website: " I am currently considering selling some or all of my fiberglass molds. I build and restore all types of cars in my shop and I am spending less time each year on my fiberglass. Email me if you are interested in any of the molds that I offer on this website. I also have Model-Y English Ford sedan and coupe molds, 1952 MGTD molds, molds for 1949-51 Mercury parts. And our Packard Molds. email me at bondracing@msn.com kyle"

I don't think Gibbon made any complete Merc bodies. I could be wrong but I don't remember any.

I own a P&J Merc. Really not a good mold at all. Terrible fit and some stuff just not right. I can't tell you all the weird stuff I had to do to the 49 grill just to get it to fit. Then again, I'm doing stuff to my Merc that shouldn't be done to a real Merc so it works for me.

A friend has a complete set of molds hanging from the rafters in his shop. They were used to make the 'IronHorse' promod.

Sorry, I try not to make comments on other peoples build ideas, but.....????? I think I'm going to be sick o_O:p:confused:

  29. Check your PMs my friend.

It would be easy enough to find out about the P&J molds. I haven't seen a body for sale but Jerry isn't hard to talk to. It would actually be an @Tim question, he spends some time there, more time than I do.

With out reading the thread I think they could be the same bodies As windfields. Judging by windfields current set up I wouldn’t be surprised if he still had the molds and etc.

Call pete and jakes and ask to talk to jerry or Jason and they’ll let you know anything you want to know. Honestly there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be the one that answers the phone.
