the headlight in the lower left is Doug Shoemaker's '50 Wayfarer. I have a pic of the pink car with two tone pink and maroon paint, I'll see if I can find it

I'm tired of seeing all of the bad, fake snow balls, awful looking, cotton ball wadded, Build a Bear stuffing. I have noticed this a lot of shows this year. We need to start an Angel Hair How to display class.

BTT, it was kool to see this Merc in great shape, Hoping to see more pics with the hood shut.....

  5. The problem is getting ahold of the real stuff. Ask me how I know....

My question is why is it sitting so high?

You can get close to Angel Hair, but its not as kool as the real thing.

Was cotton balls an old Kustom display thing?

It was setting way too high, I thought they forgot to take the air out of the bags. I really like what they did to it and hope to see more about it soon. My hats off to Jack Walker and Michael Larson when they do the Cavalcade of Kustoms. Hoods, doors and trunks are shut so you can appreciate the flow of the Kustom body lines.

I did a quick photo shop, Looks a lot better, too low but it saved me some time.....

What did you do, now the frame is broken. What about Dacron. Just split it to make it thinner. The real soft kind. I bought some more magazines this weekend I didn`t already have. Guess what I found. A pic of George`s pickup from the 70`s. What are the odds. I`ll post them later tonight.

I removed the white stuff and it just fell down.... Sorry I didn't expect it to drop so low.

  10. I remember seeing his truck in magazines. Wasn't in an issue of "Super Customs and Hot Rods"?

Are you talking about the Red Baron on the trophy? Yeah that is a real car, built by the great Chuck Miller.

  19. Hey all, been a long time since we had a Tuesday night post, but I came across something a few days ago that I just have to share. And, since it's Tuesday night, what better time than now?
Every now and then in my research, I come across something that excites me to no end. I'm still searching when time allows, although my time isn't nearly as free as it once was. Anyway, I came across some rare video of the 2nd Annual Leadsled Spectacular from 1982 in Des Moines, and needless to say I was very excited to stumble across this. Granted, the video is grainy, has tape blur outs and ends abruptly, but I was happy to find it. This is the earliest video I have come across from the Spectacular. I have video from the '83 show in Springfield (the earliest video in my collection) and the'84 show in Des Moines, but not '82.
If you watch closely you will see a young Hub and Gloria Harness dancing at the prom, as well as a few other notable custom folks from the early KKOA days. One of my favorite parts is when Pat Shaw drops off a few ladies at the prom in his knockout '57 Chevy affectionately known as the "Scarlet Lady" (W.E.H.T. #233). Here's a link to Pat's Chevy:

I'm sure those of you with sharper eyes than me will find some more great kustom nuggets in the video. I hope y'all enjoy it! We'll talk soon! E

  20. I can’t speak for everyone E but it’s good to have ya back. Also, the aforementioned Mr. Shaw wouldn’t happen be from Colorado would he?

  21. Yes he was. Sadly he passed away around 2018. E

  22. Yes sir.

  23. Howdy Ed!!!!! Hope all is well and you are getting a little play time here and there!

You can speak for me on this. This thread has gave me so much enjoyment that it would be gard yo describe it.

  25. The reason I ask is because he knew my father. They worked the safety inspection lanes at several NSRA events.

Great post Lil E. Glad it's in your library of all things kustom. at 7:39 I see the Looney Tunes Delivery, a local car with a great story. It's the blue '46 (I think) Ford Sedan Delivery. Sold long ago and found its way back home, now in the care of the builder's son, Jeff Karls, who operates a new drive inn theater with his family.

And what a way to return with the Video. You hit the ball out of the ballpark again. I think I stayed in the Val Air ballroom for maybe a two or three songs, then out to the parking lot to see the cars.

great video man.. somehow I think I had seen it before. I rode to the event in my pal Terry's chopped 50merc, unfinished with no side or rear glass. What a great event. It was there that I was bitten with the custom bug. My 55 chev that I bought at age 12 was a street machine with no front bumper, centerline wheels and bucket seats... After this event it got changed right away to nosed decked and shaved, lowered with skirts and black paint..... D497F0B4-B60F-4CC9-9512-D836A7693076.jpeg

I went there as a spectator, although I've only posted a couple pix on the Kustom's page from 1982. This is great to see video on it
