Getting the bodywork PERFECT is the main thing with me, painting it is some what of a letdown. Most depressing part would be wireing the thing.

Any metal work but most of all when a customer drives the project out the door and a new one rolls in and they pay me to build their car.

    Designing.

That explains why I've had so many false starts in the past. Come up w/ a design, start collecting parts, do a little work... boom- new design. Sell previously collected parts, start collecting parts for the new design, do a little work... boom- new design. Sell previously collected parts, start collecting parts for the new design..... WELL, you get the picture.

knowing that when im done that everone at school is gunna be shitting themselves out of the pure awesomeness of my truck. but seriously, i think its just being able to tell people "I did that"

  8. Lots of good answers on here.

I love hearing the exhaust for the first time. I'm not the type with a particular brand loyalty so I'm always trying different pipes and mufflers on different things...but the first time it fires and you hear it talk...that's a good feeling.

But I have to agree with the other people that said 'the whole thing'.

When it's a roller and you can push it out in the light for the first time, stand back a distance and look it over.

For me it is the designing and fabrication of parts. I seem to loose interest when it is in its last weeks of completion. The only thing I don't do in a build is the sanding & paint. Just don't have the place or equipment to do that part. Most of all for me is the drive. I have been driving my coupe for 44 years.

I agree with Chopped 52 Deluxe, the finished product, and taking it for it's 1st ride.

Bringing it home is my favorite part, followed closely by body modifications and metalwork.

The little details that make it different from all the others. Whether it's 40s 50s or 60s there are certain details that make the build. Finding and restoring the little things really lights my fire. It only makes sense to me but that is what I like. An NOS 57 Ford ballast resistor when an after market one is cheaper and easier to find.

    It's all about the build.

Working in the garage til all hours, Garage door open, Lights on, Radio on, Hammer, dolly, and a mig standing nearby. Eating dinner off a paper plate, your choice of beverage right outta the can, Hit the sack at 2 or 3, Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Wee hours of the morning shivering in a cold dark swap meet in drizzling rain and then finding a really cool part to make it worth being out there.

Making the first cuts on a chop, dropping the lid and suddenly you no longer have just an old car, you have a custom.

Covered in bondo dust with a good beer buzz.

The first time it moves under it's own power.
