    From the movie Cobra.
I was 6, and wanted a car just like it.

American Graffiti coupe (Milner) and a brand new 68 corvette parked at a guys house on the way to Spag's bargain land in Shrewsbury Ma. We used to stop at the end of his driveway and just oogle at that car. I was 6 yrs. old. It was the only one around.

  3. Ironically it's 2 Barris cars.

The Batmobile and the Monkee Mobile.

Although another Barris car comes in just as close.... Drag-u-la from The Munsters.

As a young boy with a toy: A Match Box Series No. 75 Ferrari Berlinetta (Lusso), made in England by Lindsey.

As a slightly older young boy: Bertolucci's 1940 Mercury for Buddy Ohanesian. Bertolucci's Body Shop was around the corner from my school, and I visited often.

I guess the SWC Willys is one of the first that sticks in my mind and some of the early "Fad Ts" of the day. My all time favorites are the Phil Bonner '65 Falcon FX car and the '63-64 Galaxies and '67 Fairlane of Fred Lorenzen.

The Monkee Mobile is NOT a Barris car - but Dean Jeffries is also responsible for one of the cars that made a huge impression on me back in the sixties - the Mantaray

Other cars that also made a big impression have been mentioned by many others: Jade Idol, Beatnik Bandit, Cushenberry's Silhouette, Orange Crate,Grabowskis "T" and The Aztec - so many to choose from.

But there's one that I haven't seen mentioned yet .... James Bond's DB5 Aston Martin - how can any kid not think that was cool.....

  17. So many different hot rods and race cars have made an impact on me, so it's hard to narrow it down to one. However, there is one that keeps popping into my mind as something that is permanently etched into my psyche .............

  21. Damn!

    I stand corrected.

For years I had always thought that Barris created the Monkee Mobile because he created most T.V. cars.

Thanks for correcting me Karrera. ;)

It just goes to show that after living on this earth for over 54 years you just don't know everything you thought you did.

    B.T.W.: I don't know why I didn't mention J.B.'s Aston Martin especially when I'm a big Bond fan.

oh I don't know...to be honest it was my dads 1953 austin healey MGTD roadster...I remember seeing B&W pics of him and my mom in new jersey back in 1959 in the snow with the top up, no side windows and my dad wearing a black leather jacket and a white t shirt underneath....just awesome!
but thats not famous, so..a 1967 shelby cobra, but thats just in general famous...I would have to say...the milner coupe from AG, and all the famous cars of the 80s: general lee, knight rider, delorean time machine....
but when it comes to actual hot rods that have given an impression as to how to build my roadster would have to be duane spencers roadster (original) and the ardun roadster jimmy shine did a few years back for the AMBR award...i know that not one bolt on it is original but WTH, it looks amazing to me!
thats the only ones that come to mind...but in all honesty there have been so many..

Way back when I was in elementry school there was a book in the library with this car in it doing a burn out with all 4 tires smoking.
I have never forgotten it after all these years. Funny I was just talking about this car last night to my father in-law.
Does anyone know how it was set up?, who owned/drove it, was it 2 motors driving the rear and 2 driving the front?

    Thanks MrC.

It was Tommy Ivo's car, that's him in the picture. I'm not sure if he drove it, too, or if his contract with the producers of Showboat put the kibosh on that.

  25. George Montgomerys blown Caddy AGS car. Tommy Ivo's twin Buick.

  26. for me it was the AlaKart, followed by the Doane Spence roadster, then the Chrisman bros A coupe Bonneville car, in that order...

  27. 1) Mooneyham/Sharp 554 Coupe
    2) Jim Jacobs 28 tub

  28. As someone already pointed out, the car belonged to Tommy Ivo. He drove it until until his studio bosses where he was filming the TV show My Little Margie put the skids on his racing activity. Ivo then passed the driving over to Don Prudhomme.

The two engines that were hooked together inline on the driver's left hand side drove the front wheels. The two on the right drove the rear.

If you want to see the car run, check out the movie, Bikini Beach.

Here's a little clip that you may find interesting ....

The car that made the most impression on me happened in 1956 I was 12 years old and we were visiting my uncle in Portland Oregon. I had gone for a walk from my uncles house and about four blocks from his house I came upon a full fendered 1929 Model A roadster in red oxide primer with a for sale sign on it. The owner had it priced at $850. Flathead power and lowered with big and littles is was and still is one of the coolest cars I have ever seen. I lusted after that car for many many years and I still remember if vividly today as if it were only yesterday.
