The only cool cars we had in the little town I grew up in where Lowriders and Streetrods, so naturally that is what I was into. Then one year when I was about ten years old, at the Houston Autorama I saw Jimmy Vaughn's 51 Fleetline and Mike Young's 60 Impala sitting side by side and I haven't been right since. In essence, you could say that Gary Howard saved me from a life of despair.

  5. I too was taken with the starring Willy's in the movie "Hot Rod" and I can't remember how old I was then but even American Graffiti didn't stop me loving those Willy's.

Growing up time was mid/late 60's, so yeah SWC Swindler II and Ohio George's 33 for gassers. Custom 'show-biz' cars were big, so as a 8-9 year old I was nuts about all the wacky ones. Munster coach, Grandpa's rail, Monkee Mobile GTO, Roth's Mysterion. The best at the drags for me was 'Wild Willy' Borsch and the Winged Express AA Fuel Altered. That was crazy sh_t every pass. So is today's version with Mike Boyd.

California kid and a 60,s white corvette with flames Red white and Blue

  19. "Greased Lightnin'" and the ragtop Merc with the flame throwers ( also in "Grease") did it for me. I was born in '72 and that came out in '78 I believe. Honorable mention should also go to the "Smokey and the Bandit" T/A and the General Lee.

Frank Mack's Track Roadster ( I had a intimate knowledge of about every square inch of that car) Frank was a very good friend, a Dutch Uncle,... and a Hot Rod mentor to me.

But a car that still gives me chills when I see it,... The Gray/Rizzio Webber Cam special,... A solid contender for coolest Hot Rod of all time, in my book.

    Doc.

    EDIT:
I have to mention one car, not a hotrod as such but I think it gave me a good 'Driving Base' to work from. That is an ex-Chicago Patroll Black and White driven by two Brothers who also were the greatest influence in my musical tastes too!!
    C'mon, I don't have to post a pic do I??

When I was young, it was Starbird's "Lil Coffin" and Cushenberry's "Silhouette" from the first run of Hot Wheels. Later on it was the SWC Willys and the Pierson Brothers coupe.

...Ok, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't say this one, too.

  25. Well for me, I've seen a lot of beautiful cars both street and strip. My most fond memories at the age of 13-15 years old were the Sox and Martian cars, loved them but my favorite has to be a porsch 911.

I was six when Christine came out (1983) and I never stopped loving the FL Mopars.

Close second would be the cars in American Graffiti, third would be the yellow '73 Eleanor.
