I know the stock engine. I cannot afford to rebuild it. Has anyone done a swap 302, 350, Nova pans, bronco pans. Lets hear the words of wisdome. This ranch is soooooo cool Ill post pics tommorow.
FE motor is a snug but satisfactory fit using '58 parts. Buddy of mine had one that worked well. Have seen 460s in 57 Fords also. 351W ought to be considered as well.
Almost anything fits, I've seen 302's to 460's. A 4.6 quad cam out of a newer police car is tits, alot of tech though. 302s go in easy. What motor was in it?? Fe's go right in too. I'll try to get you mod info on the 302's, and the 460 install. I have access to those cars. The 4.6 was stuck in a car up in Bend. One of my former POS's that someone dropped alot of G's on. Its yellow if you see it at a show.
K C, Drop a 460 in it, slid one rite in the Merc. Did ya sell the Merc? Let me know whats up!.....OLDBEET
hey oldbeet sold the merc what a fuckin 500 dollar a week habit. Bought a really nice 57 ranchero full remote airide, widewhites, scallops that look good.new upolstery disc in the front power booster, just has a tired motor, still runs good but will need a redu.
K C, my neighbors best friend has 35 (thirty-five) 57-58 Ranchos. Races them, oval track, don't like to sell parts. But if ya need somthin real bad, I might talk to him. Give me a shout if in need....OLDBEET
what fits best in a 57 ranchero.?? my ASS fits best, now hand it over! I love 57-58 rancheros and 2 door sedans! Good Luck...........Briggs
How about a 428/C6 in a ranch wagon? Were going to pull the 292 out and put the 428 in my sons wagon. What motor mounts?
please dont put a sbc...mine had a bbf 352...there was one at sherman with a 302.302 can run vewry good...y-blocks or 223 were in them..you can find affordable y blocks around and make them preform.lucky 7 on here has a bad ass big block ford in his 57 wagon...so the skys the limit.
Ratster, you can usually use stock Y block motor mounts (turned around) when installing F E motors......OLDBEET
It sounds like you're working on a tight budget here. That being the case, a common 302 is probably your best bet if keeping it all Ford means anything to you. If not, then scope out the oil pan sump location, measure the engine compartment, and go looking for a screamin' deal on a motor/tranny combo that will fit with minimal fuss.
Im definitely just a chevy motor guy- BUT I wouldn't think it would be even remotely a question of anything other than a bigger FORD motor in this car.
No brainer...[and this from a GM guy] It's gotta have an F.E. engine with a top loader...390 would be just fine with me...performance cam, single 4 barrel and headers.
This was the white with silver scallops at the april swap, I just put electronic ignition in it, its got chrome valvecovers and a nice shifting trans. Im gonna sell it all as a package, mtr trans fan on back, I drive it every day but I just want a little more ease of maint.
so far i have had a 400 w/c6,a 302 w/aod,and now a 460 w/c6 and 4:10gears..all of them fit just fine..of course the 460 is more fun,but now i am going to use a 351w w/5spd.remember you need a front sump pan..
had a '59 that i put a 351w and c4 trans no major mods pretty straight forward and easy on the wallet.good luck
