FE motor is a snug but satisfactory fit using '58 parts. Buddy of mine had one that worked well. Have seen 460s in 57 Fords also. 351W ought to be considered as well.

  4. Almost anything fits, I've seen 302's to 460's. A 4.6 quad cam out of a newer police car is tits, alot of tech though. 302s go in easy. What motor was in it?? Fe's go right in too. I'll try to get you mod info on the 302's, and the 460 install. I have access to those cars. The 4.6 was stuck in a car up in Bend. One of my former POS's that someone dropped alot of G's on. Its yellow if you see it at a show.

If I remember right, the 292-312 motor mounts are the same as the FE 390-427. One easy swap! [IMG]

How about a 428/C6 in a ranch wagon? Were going to pull the 292 out and put the 428 in my sons wagon. What motor mounts?

Ratster, you can usually use stock Y block motor mounts (turned around) when installing F E motors......OLDBEET

It sounds like you're working on a tight budget here. That being the case, a common 302 is probably your best bet if keeping it all Ford means anything to you.

If not, then scope out the oil pan sump location, measure the engine compartment, and go looking for a screamin' deal on a motor/tranny combo that will fit with minimal fuss.

  16. Is this the same one you were lookin at at the last Portland swap meet?

Do you have a 312 or 292 in it right now? if so when is it going to be for sale?

  19. Im definitely just a chevy motor guy- BUT I wouldn't think it would be even remotely a question of anything other than a bigger FORD motor in this car.

No brainer...[and this from a GM guy] It's gotta have an F.E. engine with a top loader...390 would be just fine with me...performance cam, single 4 barrel and headers.
