After running out of gas yesterday which lead me down a rabbit hole as the feed line to the pump ended up blocked...... Im going to replace all the lines as there are some minor cracks and the filter needs to be replaced too. Its currently a plastic/steel one like the one in the pic between the pump and carb. What filter I should I install to reduce the risk of fire etc and should be installed prior to the pump. Running 3/8 rubber fuel line.

    Thanks!

Wouldn't run clear plastic except to see if you got the plugged line problem fixed. Metal one for me.

I’ve used a version of the old gm canister type fuel filter on my last 3 builds. You can find ones that flow left and ones that flow right to help facilitate best location to mount it and which rail you want to run the fuel line up. And I mount as close to the fuel tank as possible.
First one of these that I used lasted more than ten years and I’m betting the guy that bought the car (years ago now) hasn’t changed out the element yet either. :p:p:p

GM #s - GF-62P, or GF-62C, or if you want to make your own bracket GF62.

33033, which is a Wix number, but availability might be iffy, especially in Japan.

Might find something EFI related that would do the job. I don't know what the application would be that you would find easily in Japan.

Stock Model A glass settling bowl with a perforated metal disc "filter" at the outlet on my '31 Coupe. Amazing the amount of rust particles it collects out of the stock fuel tank. Easy to see what's been collected, dump out the junk and keep on going.

I have these on two cars, bought many years ago, so long ago I didn't know they were discontinued.

If you can get the metal filter found in 85-95 GM efi cars/trucks.

    Bosch F0119
    Wix 33481
    Mann WK6122
    Fram G3727
    AC Delco GF952

    16x1.5 mm threaded both ends.
    ~60mm diameter by ~110mm length.
About the size of a rear hub off a BMX.
Can tuck up inside a frame rail.

Being it's for efi it also uses a finer media to trap particulates. No more worries of getting 'mud' in your carbs passages.

In my 34 I used a spin on unit from a mercruser boat app. The whole thing, mount and filter can fits in the frame rail of the Ford. Sorry, no pics or part #'s, look at ebay for an idea of what it is. Bobcat skid loaders have about the same small unit, and probably some kubota stuff too....Bingo... kubota is in your neighborhood

With those solid WIX filters how do you know if they are dirty etc?

Stock ones, except on the old truck I added one of the early glass sediment bowls mentioned earlier. I would previously have to swap out the regular filter every tank or two of gas, now it lasts hundreds of miles!

I like being able to dump out the muck from the glass bowl, give it a wipe with a rag and carry on. I also lucked into a small box of the brass screens that fit the bowl, they seem to corrode away fairly quickly with modern gas.

How do you know if they are dirty? you just change them once a year. The spin on can is so much bigger than the little inline things I highly doubt you would ever have one plug up

Like Rusty said, I change it once a year......and I have it ahead of a Filt-O-Reg, with a glass bowl.

A lot of people are not aware of the newer green stripe fuel hose that holds up to ethanol.
You may want to use that also.

My choices are aluminum filter housings with reusable SS elements that can be disassembled and cleaned. They are available in various sizes, colors, configurations, price and micron filtration.

I use them too, found on eBay in a 5 pack for a good price. The clear plastic ones give me the horrors.

I have an Earls 85-micron #2302206 filter between the tank and pump,
and an Edelbrock 40-micron #8129 between the pump and carb. Both can be disassembled, cleaned and reused.

If I forget to change the filter (life gets busy), I rely on the "abuse and neglect" maintenance model. I carry a 6" length of fuel hose and some hose clamps. When the motor starts to miss, I limp it home and change the filter. If it is too far from home, I remove the filter and McGyver it with the fuel hose.

    Cheers,
    Harv

That makes two of us, had no idea that they quit making them. This was always my go to filter mounted on the frame near the tank tucked away from sight.
Yep the method I use way too often……

I'm currently using one of these from Amazon. Installed between the fuel pump and carb. 30 micron bronze element. Comes apart for cleaning. Seals with an o-ring which hopefully doesn't turn out to be weak point in terms of leaks. I also have a metal can WIX between the fuel tank and pump.

if the tank was full of***** from sitting a long time, you'll know when it gets plugged up because the car stops driving. After you change it once or twice, it will last for years without getting plugged.

If the tank is clean, then you probably will never drive the car enough to have to change the 33033 filter, but you'll probably want to replace the rubber connecting hose some time, unless you get the type that is specified for fuel injection use.

I think these are either being discontinued and/or they have stopped making them. Seems like almost everywhere you look for them they are out of stock. I like the design though.

I have those same Fram 10 micron filters on two of my cars. But I also have the clear plastic the OP showed in his first post, and have used them for decades without issue. I don't mount them where they're near any heat or could get against anything sharp, and don't see why people are uptight about them. I like seeing when they look dirty so I know when I need a new filter.

I prefer the vintage look. Use vintage tractor suppliers for best prices
