I have an Aeroquip 100 micron in front of the electric fuel pump on both of my cars just to protect the pump. The '40 has a Wix 33033 after the pump; the roadster has a standard AC gl*** bowl with replaceable filter at the carbs. As '29 Gizmo just posted above. Working well so far...

Cheers all. Have ordered a couple WIX as suggested. Luckily have friends from the US coming over next month so they will bring them with them.

A few years ago I bought one of these in the marine paint scheme, but it looks like those as well are a thing of the past. It's discouraging when there's a good reliable product that people want to buy at a fair (not cheap) price, yet it gets discontinued.
I guess we'll have to keep an eye out at swap meets and boat graveyards. On the plus side, the filter element itself appears to still be in production.

This filter and can was on the bottom of my old Ford fuel pump. They can safely hold a huge amount of rust and dirt. I took mine off one day and discovered that it was about 2/3 full of rust and dirt, the engine was running just fine:

One other observation is regarding those large cannister filters. I have taken two off of my own family fleet to discover that the filter element became unglued inside. When I shook the drained filter I could hear it rattling around inside. When this happens, the ac***ulated dirt is suddenly able to carry on down the line.

I am running a hard line from fuel tank to 1721 Edelbrock mech fuel pump (110gph) with 6AN fuel hose to 40 micron trickflow ( alum hsg/ cleanable SS screen) between pump & Quickfuel 680SS carb . I was thinking about installing a 100 micron inline Summit filter before the pump ( between pump & tank ) .But have seen many stating with todays fuels , VAPOR LOCK can happen & NOT to use any filter between tank & Mech Pump .State the filter between pump & Carb is all that is Needed. THOUGHTS??? ANY suggestions on where to put filter between pump / tank? Is it best located back at tank or right before the pump ? Have a GREAT WEEKEND & THANKSGIVING HAMBers!!

It's important to put a piece of flexible hose from the ch***is to the engine mounted fuel pump. Otherwise the engine movement will eventually break the solid line.

As for filter location, stock is typically before the fuel pump. I would try that first, and change it only if vapour lock became a problem.

If you are poking around the wrecking yard and spot a 76/83 Fuel injected Cadillac rear wheel drive there is a good chance that there is a filter housing that pretty well looks like the AC Delco that beanscoot showed in post 33 above the rear axle on the left hand side along with the electric fuel pump. I've still got one off a 76 Seville that my wife drove back years ago.

Same here but mine is off of a Volvo-Penta V8 marine engine. The best part about these filters are that they are a fuel/water separator and fuel filter in one. I put a couple of shut off valves on it so I can replace the filter with less mess.

We live on the Oregon coast and water in the fuel is a thing here. I run non-ethanol fuel and this keeps it clean.

  12. Wix metal filter before the pump and a old Carter gl*** filter before the carb. I have a couple of Filt-O-Reg ones when I need them.

A marine fuel/water separator kit is cheap on Amazon (less than $19) and filters to 10 microns.

THANKS BROTHERS,GREAT OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM!! I like the shut off too to minmize leakage NOTto mention nice anti theft .I knew a guy who put his shut off in his 63 Nova under p*** floor ( inline on fuel hard line) & had trap door on p*** floor with carpet on it . Open the door from inside p*** side & shut fuel off when car left .Said they will only get as far as the fuel in line & carb bowl if the steal it . Clever but if they want it bad enough, they have their ways .HAVE A GREAT & SAFE THANKSGIVING HAMBers!!!

After one of those ****ty Mr. Gasket gl*** ones could have burned down my truck, I only run the steel bodied (Napa/Wix) ones. If it's starved for fuel you'll see it through the float bowl windows.

Had one come apart on me. The brand new spare in my toolbox got tossed. They're junk.

I use a stainless mesh 100 micron filter at the tank feeding a mech pump, no vapor lock issues. Only other filters are inside the holley bowls, the stock sintered bronze ones which have been proven to not be restrictive as a lot of people have thought and most people remove.

    23 bucks for this?
Remember when everyone used to throw them away, because they thought they were a flow restriction?

Just like any other filter, if you suspect it's dirty blow through it and you'll know.

Or since they're not that expensive, just replace it somewhat regularly.

Nope, nothing wrong with these. I recall that you could put a filter inside:

The steel cansiter, newer style ones like below are not so good. I've had two fail internally, the filter came unglued allowing all the dirt to be released. When I took them off and drained them, I could hear and feel the element inside clunking around when I shook 'em.
