What goes on round Austin Tx? shall i move there?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tim G, Aug 31, 2010.

  1. This whole thread has me laughing. We can all chime in and say what we want about Austin, which is cool. However do not move here based on what you have heard or do hear, move here because you have done your research, move here because you know the good and the shitty about this town and lastly move here because you feel like it is the right thing for you and your family. There are those who love it here and those who cannot wait to get out, best of luck with your trip and decision.

The worst thing about Austin is seeing it disappear in the rear view mirror. Nobody ever willingly leaves this town!

The vintage car scene is like our population ... gets bigger and better everyday. Praise the lowered!

Had a few days there back in August and loved every minute of it, the people, the music, the countryside, I'd go back in a second!

See if you lived here now....you would be less than an hour away from the Day of the Drags this weekend!:D

  6. Man I grew up in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area and have lived in California for the past 12 years, but you guys make me really want to move back. I've never even been to Austin but it sounds like a great place to live. Maybe if I do move back to Texas, I will check Austin out first. How hot do the summers get there?

It depends on where you're coming from, if you ask me. I'm from New Orleans (hot and very humid) and I don't mind Austin summers at all. Don't get me wrong, they're hot, but not unbearable. This summer I think we only had a handful of days in triple digits. Last summer, though, I think we had 40+ in a row! But the humidity is pretty low here so it's not as brutal as it could be.

I lived in Austin between 1980-1993 and it was a paradise. A lot has changed since then, they pretty much ripped out a lot of the old town and more or less sterilized and yuppiified most of it north of town lake. Been back a few times, it seems not so awesome anymore.

I had to leave because of cedar fever..it got worse every year. the heat gets old as well. but, that being said, nicer than most places.
