Just got my new smoothies and they're not real impressive. Very sharp edges around the bead area, light scratches in front, chrome dull in the center and the center caps were chromed over dents, plus the center caps are made in Taiwan. They have 5, 3 inch bead welds on the back and weren't even cleaned up after the weld. WTF??
Sounds like any other generic steel wheel....I doubt Cragar makes them, they just sell them... Cragar SS' wheels are of the best quality ever I think these days. The chrome coverage is vastly superior to any old Cragar, nice shiny chrome down by the lugs and in the crevices.
...I dont know, last pair of new S/S I held in my hands I wasn't very imprssed with. Just kinda chinsy I thought. We bought some '65 GT350 Cragar wheels (a one year only 5-spoke design) from Paradise wheels in Ca. Guy named Craig makes them himself and the quality is outstanding. -Dean
I don't know who made them but they were advertised on there site and in the catalog as Cragar. Pretty damned poor quality if they are. I never saw any wheels made by them that weren't good and that's why I bought them. I guess I should have realized something was up for that price (62.00) but **** that pisses me off. Lesson learned again
Well, over the last year a co-worker bought a set (15" x 10"s and 4.5"s), I bought a set (15" x 7"s) for myself, and a couple skinnies (15 x 4.5"s) for my dad, and they all looked great.
They are all made in California...Cragar is a division of Carlisle Wheel and Tire.. It's like anything..The guys making them have good days and Fridays.... Jason
they went ***s awhile ago now. it's now made over seas by unique wheel co. the cragar ss, are probably better quality now than they ever were. that said, composite wheel technology was never really all that great anyway.
There are a couple of companies making Cragar wheels these days. The composite wheels and the steel wheels are made by Unique. The race wheels were bought by Weld before he went out of buisiness. Then there were 2 companies making aluminum wheels with the Cragar name. Call Unique at 1-800-398-1367 and let them know how you feel. Brian
Unique is owned by Carlisle Wheel and Tire also....The wheels are made in the US.. I have been in the plant as they were making them about 5 months ago.. Jason
lesson learned, don't buy smoothies, they look awful no matter what the level of quality. why not buy o.e. style chrome reverse? there isn't much of a price difference anymore...
