Remember when Speed Channel was SpeedVision? Victory by Design, all different kinds of racing and shows. Those crazy Austrailian 900Hp ditch boats F1 compilations from times gone by and more. Now it's almost nascar vision/ Don't get me wrong nascar is good but a man can only see so much of one form of racing. I want to see some shows about the old "elf" cars, the 1300Hp BMW F1's and the six tire F1 cars. I want to see more shows like HotRod TV. I want the variety it used to offer!
The company that owns speed channel also owns a large intrest in NASCAR, when the take over two years ago happen manny road racers where concerened and it has proven justified. Now it might as well be named the BORING chanel.
the same thing that happened to tnn. "they" saw a good thing, bought it & made it "better" for us. ain'tcha glad they're lookin out for us? ...mel
I agree that it has become the station for redneck racing. I guess it would be great if I cared about NASCAR, but I would rather watch real drivers like the ones that were listed above. I guess it would not be so bad if it was just a day designated to NASCAR, kinda like they have for motorcycles (Tuesdays), etc.. Well, it just means that I pop in the Mad Fabricators dvd more than I used to.
When I finally gave in and got cable, I went all the way and got digital cable because it was the only way I could get Speed. After realizing that I was shelling out dough for the NASCAR Channel, I dropped digital. I don't like only one type of car, and I don't like only one form of motorsport.
Staying up till 3 am to watch rally racing sucks. Wouldn't it be cool to make the NASCAR boys race an old school race on a clay short track. I would be fun to watch them figure it out. I could watch that for hours.
And even NASCAR is losing its appeal to auto enthusiasts, not like back even ten years ago when people actually won because their car was faster, not because they pitted on the right lap everyweek.
Yah, the Speed channel just jerks my chain! Aside from the fact I can't watch it because I can't afford digital cable, They took all the real interesting racing from most of the other channels years agoe. I love the goofy stuff, Mudbogs, swamp buggy racing, lawnmower racing, Ralley, GT cars, demolition derbies. I like to watch "real" racing. ya know the kind that actually has a budget, where the drivers are also the mechanics and the owners, where people actually use the brains to get a car to work instead of there wallet. That kind of stuff you could find on a late wednsday evening every so often but when Speed came around suddnly all those races were listed on Speed and there was almost nothing on any other channel. Sorry that just pushes my buttons
Thr Rally racing is the best thing on Speed anymore, and it's only on like once a month for six months. Those guys are insane, I love it when they run on ice/snow with spiked tires...
SPEED has become BUBBA RACING, michelle smith is the best thing on there these days how in the hell can someone watch bubba racin day in and day out is beyond me..... and while we are at it espn almost always delays drag racing for a late ball game of some sort ... can't get a break in my old age...........
I moved up to the digitial cable tier specifically to get SPEED. So far, I'm not as impressed as I'd hoped, but I kinda like "Pinks" and a few other shows. I really like the Hooters Pro Cup tour (way better than I do NASCAR), so it is worth the extra couple of bux to get to see those races to me. Plus, my cable company threw in a Tivo on the deal... TNN was da BOMB for this redneck racer. Anybody remember the nationwide demolition derby tour they ran about 10 years ago, and their midget and sprint car winter racing series in California? There was also ASA and asphalt Super Late Model racing on most every week. Plus there was just enough IHRA drag racing to make for some variety. But like everything else worth a damn on TV, it went away... Jan
I lost interest in nascar racing when they changed the rules to allow front wheel drive car bodys to be used as rear wheel drive. It was cool when you was able to go to the dealer and buy something that was close to what was run last Sunday now it is Driver Drama (Yawn) if I wanted that shit I would watch pro wrestling. BTW new2 you need to read the rules and post a intro. Dawg
yea nascar sucks. i miss stock car racing, you know when they used to take a stock car and make a race car from it and race them... its just indicative of anything that gets huge bucks thrown at it, it ruins it. as far as im concerned they just run full fendered F1 cars. and just like in F1 the top three teams with the top money behind them wins, usually 1-3. i truly miss espn's coverage of world of outlaw sprints and midget action. it was thursday night thunder then saturday night thunder now its gone like a popcorn fart. whens the last time anyone gave a damn that NHRA still runs. those folks are losing their asses badly. i see them headed the way of trans am, not enough money in the winning to justify keep running them. but they too are playing the money team not just wins but owns any event. i mean look for john force to do info-mercials next to tommy "whats his face from trans am who use to beat the hell out of anybody anywhere"...great color commentator im sure. i do like the racing history shows on speed but they show the same ones over and over. oh well, just give me more fake drama like "pinks" and "build a bike in 8 days or ill smash you nuts" and i guess ill be pacified.
kinda like football, who in the hell can get excited over butt tag? i always liked the "we won" shit. uh, i didn't see YOU on the field.... btw, if they were "bubba's" racing (like the old days) i'd still watch. now they're just a bunch of whiny yuppies....
Nascar SUCKS because it really doesn't have anything to do about cars... it's a faux "motor" "sport" marketed to retards who watch ESPN SportsCenter. France and Co. are doing all they can to eliminate tech innovation (all the better for 'parity'), in the hopes that it will become the next NFL... with millions of droolers cheering on their favorite driver, buying all that licensed merchandise.
Have you noticed that the drivers ave stopped calling it racing? Now they refer to it as "entertainment", just like the pro wrestlers do! As noted above money is what happened to the Speed channel. Advertising dollars are what drives the bus, we're just along for the ride.
Gawd Zenor, you are SO right. When just about every program on that channel is NASCAR racing and the ones that are not, are all about ANALYZING what so and so driver had for breakfast the day of the BIG race, you can really see the parallels to all the NFL garbage. It IS the next NFL! Step right up!
There was a Nascar race in Chicago a few months ago, and for giggles I tuned into the local ESPN sports yak radio station during a long Saturday drive to listen to the big pre-race special program. Two f'ing hours of moron sportscasters blithering on about "team controversies" and "hot drivers" and "point chases" and so on. Not once did they mention anything to do with engines, suspension setups, anything that actually related to cars, other than the fact that the Roush built Fords. It was clear that these microphone sports blowhards couldn't find the oil drain plugs on their Hondas, but that didn't keep them from becoming "expert commentators."
What was the name of that show on speed vision about 4 or 5 years ago, were theyd look at all kinds of vintage stuff. Sometimes - wood boats motor cycles vintage racing private collections. I really miss that one.
The right wing's way to bring balance to their lives. Left turns, day in and day out as fast as possible.
SCCA rally is on now, later there's a DIRT 358 mod race - I think the Syracuse race, but the guide doesn't say where. Last night I watched the Nascar Southwest race at Mesa Marin, taped from a while back. That was some pretty good racing. They show dirt late models and things too. World Of Outlaws is on the Outdoor channel, so they can't get that but I wouldn't be surprised to see that Petty series on here. Plus some other open wheel stuff shows up, F1 and CART... okay, forget that last one. I caught a few CASCAR races on there and they were pretty good, too. Their cars have a lot more stock looking bodies - I was dissapointed to see Nascar buy that series, because now it will be the same cookie-cutter crap as far as cars go. The problem with Nascar is their technology is stuck in a time-warp from 1975, while the people in charge all worry about making it fair and safe and all this crap. Life isn't fair, shit happens, and the point of a race is to get there first with the fastest car. Meanwhile it's kind of funny to hear about advancements "that come from Nascar racing" when the cars in the series have suspension based on a '62 Chevy pickup, a carburated pushrod V8, rear wheel drive to a solid rear axle, and not a single computer in sight. And they all look the same except for the decals. It's amusing to watch Kenny Schrader and Michael Waltrip needling each other on Monday nights, but thats about my fill on Nascar - how much can you talk about the same shit week after week? The TV coverage beat that Kurt Busch thing into the ground... okay, he's an asshole, he deserved it, end of story. Lets move on - Be nice if they'd run on a dirt track somewhere like the ARCA series does a couple times a year. Then again, with all the driver drama I think the all-star race should be replaced with a demolition derby and the drivers can all take their agression out on each other there. It really is turning into pro-wrestling (you can't tell me that the Lowes car winning 4 times in a row at the Lowes track is just good luck, unless good luck is a hidden NOS kit).
Don`t know when you watch, but those shows are still on. Nascar seasons over and they are showing alot of Victory by Design [ cool stuff ] Rally, and so forth. You are correct about the roundy-rounders though, they have takin over the racing scene. It`s all a money thing now. I can`t belive you remember the TERRELL cars with the 4 little front steering tires on them!
nascar sucks because it isnt remotely close to stock anymore. it used to be the best form of racing in the world. you could buy the car you saw win on sunday almost. i would love to see a stock charger, stock monte carlo and stock taurus all have at it. but i guess that wouldnt be fair and it would slow everyone down but think of how it would bring back the moms and pops. the people who made the sport great but without a whole lot of money. quality racing doesnt always have to involve 180 mph speeds, just talented driving id love to see events with 42 cars run in 3 heats of 50 and a main of 100 laps. each heat has 14 cars. run the top 5 places in the main of 15 cars with the fastest qualilifiers in the back. holy shit you talk about exciting racing. there would definitely be proof of who the men and the boys were after that. i would also make all cars fit as factory body templates would and be powered by stock drivetrains computered or not and have stock-ish suspension. of course all the typical safety constraints would apply i.e. cage, belts, hahns device, whatever it takes. i'd also agree with some of the other posters here, go back to dirt occasionally. in my opinion they can substitute any road course for a dirt track. just think what all this would do. tires would be cheaper because you dont go through as many, cars would be cheaper, you can have tons of huge talent who never could afford a ride finally getting a ride, a damn race wouldnt take you to la-la land waiting for the end to see anything happen, it would totally ruin the scene for shitkickers w/ creditcards who just love an excuse to get drunk in public, finally drive american car companies to try and out-do each other like they used to and maybe just maybe stockers would be fun again.
