They did get that '50 out of the lake and it looked like it was preserved really well. Would love an update on that car.

SHIT! i almost forgot about the Edsel we found behind a bus place. the frame was non existant and the motor was seazed cuz some ass left the hood open... it was a running car when they parked it there in the 70s. i ended up parting it out, still have lots of shit left from it.

I think Ray beat me to it, but I wondered about the rail car full of old fords, or whatever it was.
No pics, but if someone wants to dig out a 50 Nash ambASSador 4 door let me know. it's my uncles, but he let some guy a few years ago haul away the '30 ford that set next to it. I am such an ass for not hauling it out myself. I thought it was too far gone. it was pretty bad. setting outdoors in MI aint kind to iron.

My dad works for the railroad. A few weeks ago, a train car full of new mustangs jumped the track near KC and slid towards the river. Luckily, it didn't go in, but due to the fact that they were in an accident, they all couldn't have been sold - the railroad calls the cargo a loss, buries it, collects the insurance money and pays Ford off. Wouldn't it have been awesome to buy 'em as scrap metal and part 'em all out?

I guess they bring torches and cut the whole thing down and bury it all sometimes. My dad said he remembers when the railroad was laying track in the '70s and they found an entire buried mail car full of mail from the 40s. They tried to deliver it after they found it, too!

He's confirmed a few incidents of train cars full of autos being buried along the side of the track.

So some of that stuff you've heard is true.

I've also heard of a gang of bootleggers and robbers in the 30s that used to stash stolen/getaway cars in a cave along the river. No one has ever found that location.

we buried a reefer trailer full of spoiled meat after we burned it with many gallons of diesel (in iraq ;) ) so that should be quite the adventure:D

You'd be supprised at how much stuff Ford Destroys... I'm talking NOS parts from the 40s 50s and 60s... My uncle worked for a huge Ford dealer in OKC, he said they throw it all in a semi trailer and it would go to recycle...lot's of NOS mustang stuff. Engines, complete with the plastic wrap on them... stuff that just set on the shelf for years and wasn't sold. Cars that had some little problem and the buyer wore out his welcome till they gave him a complete new car. they'd have cars that were in the bull pen to be recycled that were running and driving cars, with the keys in the colomn!

And yes the military used to bury tanks and jeeps all over, I guess as a surplus. There are lots of stories about tanks and jeeps in OK in the camp gruber area.

Man, wouldn't it be nice to have one of those Cadillac flatties out of one of those 40s tanks?

They found Hoffa in the trunk of a car in the woods, next to it was a 3 yr old vette that they couldn't get the dead body smell out of, a car from Lovers lane with a "Hook" hangin off the door handle & 10 WW2 army surplus harleys that they could only get 8 guys to chip in for,so the deal fell thru!!lolololol

My Father-in-Law runs the body shop that his Dad started in the 50's. His Dad bought truckloads of new Ford sheet metal in the early 70's from the scrapyard that the Ford assembly plant in St. Paul took all their stuff to. It was a model change year, so there was alot of it. My Father-in-Law's Father-in-Law was the crane operator in that scrapyard! That was how they were able to get it out. There was a couple month period then that there was labor strike, so none of the dealers or other body shops could get sheetmetal. They made a killing selling this stuff to the other shops! My Father-in-law cleaned out the storage area that still had a bunch of new parts, as well as other stuff his Dad had stockpiled about 2 years before I met my wife. Sounds like I missed alot of good stuff! He just hauled it out for scrap! Unfortunately my F-i-L isn't into cars. I have gotten a couple of nice old porcelin signs (Overland Cars/Phillips66) for my garage though that missed the dumping.
