Still collecting parts, but the idea for my RPU project started around a box of old aircraft rivits

  3. As a self proclaimed wheel whore, I usually start with a pair or set of wheels and/or tires - for me, they really set the theme of the car.

Sometimes, usually at a swapmeet, divine intervention comes into play - you find something cool you never really thought of using before and it gets the gears turning. Or, you see a part in a new and different way (whether a completely different application for the part or a way to modify it) that you never thought of before. I found some late model, donk-ish wheels a while back that, with some modifications, would be extremely cool on a traditional ride (at least in my eyes). When I find an affordable set I think I'll pick them up, do the mods and see what the result looks like.

I have also been planning a start for a future project around a rough '33 cowl - I'm thinking a woodie would be the logical direction since I don't have any other metal for the car!

I also started my '33 5W project with a grille - it looks a lot like a narrowed '37 truck grille but came off an English Fordson truck/van. Reminded me of one of my all time faves - Jake's truck nosed '34 3W so I've held onto it until a '33 project came along (planning on converting the rough old 5W to a 3W as well).

  4. A Magnum Camaro disc brake adapter kit for Ford solid axles.

My pal and I were discussing dry lakes roadsters and I thought I had quite a few leftovers from building the 32 roadster and maybe I could do another one since I'd found two 29 roadster bodies for $500. - long gone I'm sorry to say so he donated the kit.

We go back and forth like that a lot, but this was the first time a whole new car got started....

  5. I am a HUGE Y block fan, so when I found this rare Spaldings distributor for a Y block, I knew it was going into something special. So far I have collected a set of rams horn manifolds, early Edelbrock tri power, forged crank, ECG-Z heads, and a steel adapter to a early top loader 3 speed. I'm still looking for a set of Fenton valve covers.
Then when I bought my 39 coupe I knew what engine would go in it. I havn't started the project yet, but it did all start with this dizzy!

  6. My old A model started with a grille shell I inherited from a mate. Odd thing is, in the finished product I didnt use the grille that started it!

A small box of parts, a large pile of tubing, and an idea.

    I got a Bell 3 -spoke wheel and a model a deck lid in trade for some wiring I did--wheel didn't fit on my 37 coupe--so I started collecting parts for a 50's-60's style roadster--ended up with a 29 body--a home-made chassis--and tons of other people's junk.

I built this entire car from a set of disc brakes and a pinto engine adapter.

  13. One of my brother's penpall buddy's came over to visit the states from Sweden and as a gift to me, gave me an old 34 english ford grille emblem....a ford oval for the top of the radiator shell only in RED! Has to be 15 years ago. That was the first part of my latest.... a "model 40" [33-34 ford] ford coupe. ,I always wanted a 33-34 ford coupe....was approached by another local HAMBer just lately who had this woody based on a 34 ford rolling chassis and he wanted one of my 53 stude coupes...we worked a trade and another buddy had a decrepid 34 ford 5 windodw body..made a decent deal to me for it and I was on a roll! Got the 33 grille and a workable decklid last Sunday....and found [and bought] a complete 1940 ford rusty rolling chassis for parts, including all the engine.[a later 59-AB], trans and rear end..
All this has happened in about 3 months! Well, except for the first part...the red ford oval. Jesus, what's next?
I never thought I would ever get one...but it's happening, much to my surprise.

Everything I build has to be built around my 6'4" 400lb. carcass, does that count?

Mine started as a free 30/31 "A"cowl, and part of a demolished cab which is a 33 or 34. That was the easy part, now all I have to do is figure out the rest, and a way to pay for it!

  18. Cool how the sbc morphed into a hemi! :)

Bought a 59Z flathead block and Grancor heads over a decade ago. Will fit a '32 roadster around them someday. Have probably 90% of the parts now, but 0% of the time required.

  20. Yeah,,but you put a hemi in it,,,:D HRP

i had the sbc on the stand ready to go into the car, and then i thought,"somebody beat me to it" [putting a sbc into a 32 ford], so this is what happens if you stop to think.
