In the scope of this message board, none of those are "Hot Rods". Think stripped down 30's car with a big V8. Hot Rod.

I have a '70 Challenger with a Shaker hood and a bone stock 440 4 speed (13.9/99.7mph) I consider a "hot" street car, but it's not HAMB material.

Not trying to pick a fight, just a heads up. I like your cars.

It's hot; but it's not a hot-rod. And as for the Bluesmobile, that's just awesome. I grew up on the movie; but, still not a hot-rod.

  3. Thanks el Scotto. I DO agree. The Road Runner and the Bluesmobile are definitely NOT HAMB material, but there was an earlier post that made it sound like I had the dirt area in the front yard of my mobile home full of pieces of***** half finished cars and trucks... Kinda pissed me off. We do a LOT of charity events with the RR and the Bluesmobile and I THOUGHT that getting into hot rods would be fun...

The 49 truck is going to be a fun project, but to be honest, I really don't give a***** if anyone thinks that a Rat Fink shifter IS or IS NOT "traditional" enough for them. The point is to have FUN WITH CARS, is it not? I get so damn tired of hanging out at the "lawn chair shows" with these old as dirt grumpy*****ers that fart dust everywhere they go, and listening to them****** and complain about how wonderful that life USED to be before they had electricity... I think that they just live to complain about*****!

To put it in the words of Bambi's friend "Thumper" "If you can't say something nice, then SHUT THE***** UP!!!"

Just lighten up and HAVE FUN!!! Life is too short!!!

    Cheers!

I drive my 1929 ford model A roadster pick up with a 512cid Cadillac bigblock in it, 480hp/590ft/lbs of torque and the car weighs 1829 lbs, best time in the 1/4 mile was 9.96 at 136 mph. Besides that I drive my 1954 chevy pick up if I have to transport some thing which has a 310hp small block in it or my 1957 harley that has a 93cid strocker in it that makes 106hp.
But the point was that a '70s car is not a hot rod, it's a late model car, a musclecar if that's what you want to call it.

People will know your daily is a hot rod when it leaves them in a cloud of tire smoke accompanied by the sound of mechanical chaos.

The only thing a 3 foot shift handle attached by hose clamps does is confirm you're either sporting extra chromosomes or trying way too hard.

Just drive something cool, it's really that simple. Then you won't need hose clamps and shock-value accessories.

    Hey man
I was not trying to flame you. It's just my opinion that Drivers are drivers. Let me elaborate.
1970 1/2 Z28 4 speed,******* outside headers, Flared fenderwells, Huge MT tires really low. I*****ed with the motor sooooooooooo much it would eat plugs in a weekend. Using Chevys offroad 754 cam it sorta idled around 1500 on a good day. would pull between 8500 to 9000 on new plugs. It was my driver! After that I bought my hot rod and I swore I would never***** with my driver ever again. Driver after that was a 67 Camaro 6 cy auto. took me everywhere I wanted to go.
All in all people will know you for who you are. No need to impress them

That's not how we work around here...and for the record, I think it woulda taken less time to weld that shifter on than to deal with 3******* hose clamps ;)

  8. Man, that WOULD be a pain in a daily driver! When my wife and I first got married, she drove our ONLY car which also happened to be our "nice" car, and it was a '71 340 4 barrel powered, shift kitted 727, 3.91's in the back 70's Mopar. Fun as hell on the weekends, but NOT fun in the daily traffic grind or doing the grocery store run! But we couldn't afford to have a NICE / FAST car, HER daily driver AND a daily driver for me, you know? So, she got to drive the nice car, and I carpooled!

I figured that if you have to drive to & from work, and your office is too close to the ghetto (like mine) and you ABSOLUTELY CAN'T drive your fun stuff to work, what have you done to make your commute a LITTLE more fun??? I expected to see Sun tachs, or old school style shifters & knobs, or other cool hidden speed shop stuff...
