    Howza Bruthas,
The snail paced****embly continues! Recently found a set of front backing plates, reversed the spindles to put the tie rod out front, split the bones and am now waiting for tie rods for the ends of 'em.
Now my usual question, can the ends be mounted to the frame instead of hanging off of the frame?

    interesting, Spooky,

I would think you could mount the ends anywhere solid that doesn't interfere with anything else but,

is your frame going to be under the axle like that, and are the headlights mounted to the axle?

    Paul

  5. The caster of the axle sets where the tie rods should be mounted. Set the frame to ride height front and back. Set the axle leaning back 7 degrees. That's where you should mount the end of the wish bone.

Thanx for the info SoWhat(owner of one of the coooolest RPU's evah!).
I plan on hanging the front axle,
suicide style, off of a spring perch bought from a supplier up here, hopefully, haven't heard back from them yet. The frame horns will be removed definetly. As for the headlights, I am still playing around with where they will go. Here is another pic from the top showing the crossmember for the spring perch.

  8. Anything wrong with pie cutting the the bones to move them up in the rear? Or mounting them where you want, then cutting the bones to set the caster?

  9. As long as your welds are good ....It OK
By the way thanks for the compliment

in super low cars instead of mounting the bones above the rails-- in the same style that you see them hanging under the frame-- ive seen the bones doglegged so they can line up wiht the frame and mount with out any extra tabs and such. much cleaner look.

i think junkyardogs dad did this ont knwo hwo though, just heat the***** out of them and bend????

oh and yeah long as everything else lines up ive heard of any problems with mounting to the frame, do it just like the little tab set up with the bungs and what not, just in the frame i guess

that was what i was gonna do on the next one is mount the bones almost even withe the frame and put the tierod ends in the center of the frame..just remember your steering and draglink.

with the spring perched just behind the axle and a cowl mounted box with the draglink above the driver's side bone [IMG]

so the frame, bones, spring, axle and tie rod are all at the same hieght.

'would look good with semi eliptics too..

  13. Tim...some of the later year cars have a dogleg in the bones already.

Alright, I am absorbing this and trying to find my way. What my main question is what is the easiest way to mount the muthas, and most cost efficient-i.e.-CHEAPEST WAY... [IMG]
I like the look of the bones mounted in the frame, but if it involves a lot of work, more than I am skilled at, then I want to do it the simplest and safest way.
