Well, not as much as I wanted but it's a start. I threw this ol buggy together last year to go to Bonneville and drive away in our wedding...which both happened without a hitch. I didn't half-*** anything but some things needed more attention or finished up.
First thing was the rear spring. It was really soft and the car sat lower in the back then I liked. It also leaned to one side. It was an oringinal spring that someone heated and bent the outer leafs up. I took the spring that was in the car when I bought it, reversed the eyes and de-arched the 3 largest leafs. I had also installed a vent for the rear end because I have a pinion seal retainer made by Hot rod pro. The vent was one of the bolts at the very top of the banjo I drilled a hole through and ran a tube up and over the gas tank. Well, on our way to bonneville it blew 140 weight all over. So...out came the gas tank, I cleaned the whole rear underside of the car and repainted the tank black instead of the silver I had it (I hated the silver color). Then I installed a vent the correct way out on one axle bell.
I also made another gauge panel to go under the dash, this time using two 2 5/8 gauges and a tachometer. I have an original SW tach drive holder for the front of the crank, but need a good 2:1 90 degree SW drive if anyone has one.
I had some things plated and thanks to Sledge, finally found 2 more "Baldy" style hub caps. Along with that I repainted the wheels maroon, I think it looks a ton better then the cream ones that were on it.
I swapped the Edelbrock heads for a set of new Navarros, they are a way nicer head.
Last is not installed yet. Nealinca PM'd me saying he had a 37 Nash Gemmer box that he had set up for a 34 Ford and plated it...then the customer backed out. I could not afford the box, although I wanted one REALLY bad, so Neal worked out a trade with me to get it. Thanks so much Neal, I'm sure you only traded to make it easier on me, do know I really appreciate it! I'm working on making a column for it, then will install the box!

Here it is today, it sits about an inch higher...just right in my eyes. Rides a ton nicer, too. The Navarro heads make it run a bit harder ;)

    Chris,
Just curious, is the chromed ash tray the one I sent you? If it is, it came out great!
    Cheers,
    Stewart.

  7. yep, looks ace.

Those rear lights, are they staying angled up, haven't noticed them till now?

Either way the car looks real neat, and a credit to you.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus :)

Very nice (as always with your projects).
Looks understated and effortless (I'm sure that is not so easy).

All those small changes really help out with the way it looks now. Thing of beauty.

Nice work Chris. I like winter projects that are based on improving a running car. With it up in the rear a bit it does look better and the gas tank is a big improvement as well.

Tonight I finished making a column tube for the new box. It would take a stock 33-34 tube, however with the 46-48 steering wheel I wanted to use a 1940-1947 pickup bell. I removed the bell from the original tube, and attached it to the tube of a 1937ish large truck tube. I only needed to shorten top of it, the bottom was perfect length with the column drop holes lining up.
I wanted to plate this, but it's not quite perfect...so I think I'll paint it and run it and look for a better tube and make a better one to plate down the road

I have fenders and running boards stored away for it someday. Right now I'm enjoying it how it is, but in the end I picture a dark green, full fendered car with a bone white top and a lot of chrome.

I angled them back to match the profile of the rear, same as the license plate. I put the lights on it just sorta temporary as I plan on fenders. If I left it as a highboy I'd probably put the NOS 50 Pontiacs in the back...I have those saved to go on the rear fenders.

Does anyone know the difference in steering column upper bushings? Is it the ID, OD or both? Sacramento Vintage Ford list them as 1932-1941 and 1942-1948. I need one for this and would hate to order the wrong thing. Pretty sure this tube is 1937ish...but could be wrong.

I like the 46-60? pickup upper bearing, rather than the early style rubber bushings. The outer race should press i to you tube just fine.

Order part number B-3517-AM from Mac's '32 to '41 with a bronze bushing.
