Last night was driving thru town and came upon a group of young guys, they were gathered around a car in the driveway, garage door open, drop lights, car up on jack stands, radio on.Immediately transported me back 50 years,to my youth and my friends working on OUR cars! The only difference between then and now, they were working on a later model BMW. NEW HAIRDO SAME HEAD!
That beemer probably had an LS in it. Popular swap around here, makes for a fine drift car. Love seeing the younger generation playing with cars, regardless of the make, model or year.
Until a tree fell on my 528 I was seriously thinking about putting an LS in it. I'd still build one if I can find a real nice body with a good interior for an honest price. I used to see a group of kids with ricers at a little garage beside a house about five miles from my house a few years ago every time I drove by. They were always working on something there and there but I think they must have grown up and moved off.
I’m not a drift fan but one of my golf buddies has a son that is making quite a name for himself in the game. Travis Reeder, he races all over the country and currently drives an LS powered beemer. I’ve watch videos of side by side, transitional drifting And he is talented!
And here I was going to say they were probably trying to figure out one of the random code alerts BMWs love to throw. As for swapping engines if I thought I could get one in the X3 I would seriously consider it. I have both the car and the engine needing a new home. But for now the 51 is more in need of attention. If only I could find a group or even one or two younger people that wanted to have fun turning wrenches and playing with cars.
