    FROM REVELL SITE,

    To Our Loyal Customers:
Over the years we have been pleased to provide you with the finest NASCAR plastic model kits featuring the most popular drivers. Regrettably however, over the last several years we have faced increasing licensing costs that are greater than our increase in sales. Despite our best efforts to secure reasonable licensing terms for NASCAR model kits in general, and the Car of Tomorrow in particular, we have been unable to develop a program that allows us to market the product at a viable price point. Consequently, we will not be issuing a kit on the Car of Tomorrow and, in fact, will be exiting the NASCAR business altogether. We will discontinue all sales of NASCAR plastic kits by February 28, 2009.
This has been an extremely difficult decision to make as we are fully aware of the avid fan base of NASCAR model kit builders and truly appreciate your support over the years.

how about the auto companies going bankrupt and no models to build? they talk about licensing ford watches it names, images real close,,no more 32 coupoes? or f-1 or ,when the license fees out strip your sales in anything , not good business for anyone

sounds like they should adjust the fees ,the way everything is going these days

It's just good business on Revell's part. NASCAR is a very high dollar business and their greed is way up their. Stock up on the models right now and you'll be one happy camper.

Stude_trucks and Cruiser have both got great points. Cruiser might have the best investment advice all week.

The last NASCAR model I built had a big ***ed STP logo on the hood and some guy named Richard had his name over the window.

Yep, NASCAR greed shoots itself in the foot. They're gonna be hurting real bad in 2009 and need to face the new economic reality.

I read an article some where recently, that stated with all the problems that detroit is having that it may set NASCAR back 30 years. My thought was; that would be great!

The only circle track races I go to are short track modifieds and sprint cars; I wouldn't walk accross the street to see a cup race.

As long as Revell makes their models here in the USA, if my car was finished, I'd let them make a model of it(if interested), and give The HAMB my licensing kick back(Of course it wouldn't be as big as nascar's but I'm sure it would help.My kids would enjoy building any of your guys rods and customs!

NASCAR is losing millions, and I don't feel for them one bit. The seat prices at Texas Motor Speedway have doubled and tripled since the track opened in '97. Camping spots went from an original $75 to over $300. The cost of trinkets and food is absurd. For a family of four, it's a thousand bucks, and that's ***uming you are NOT camping out or staying in a hotel!

When DuPont and other full-time sponsors spend $20M/year to sponsor ONE team, it's simply beyond ridiculous anymore. Close to a third of Cup teams do not have full or even part-time sponsorship. The days of one-car team operations have effectively been gone for over a decade. Sears pulled out of the Craftsman series, so there is no one to sponsor that for '09.

NASCAR has to get their heads out of their ***es soon. They need to stop the Cup guys from running in the Busch (I won't call it Nationwide, thanks) series and/or the truck series. They need to pick one and stay there, which would allow up-and-coming drivers to participate and get sponsorship...just like the old ****in' days! Make the cars actually LOOK like the real things, like it was up to the late '90s. Oh, and piss on Toyota! Besides, there may well be NO major automakers left to base a car on anymore, anyhow!

And lastly, for God's sake...FOX Sports, get rid of that washed-up, no-talent, stupid bag of **** Darrell Waltrip! "Boogity-boogity-boogity!", my ***! He's an idiot!

Yes they are shooting there self in the foot . With the economy there are a lot of team members in my area around moorseville nc are losing there jobs. Petty Enterprises fired I think it was 36 or so people this week with over 60 total and has no full sposer for either car. Greedy nascar should lower the licensing fee to promote sales . What a bunch of ***holes.

I remember reading a quote from an unnamed NASCAR team, but I imagine it probably applies to NASCAR as well.

"We don't make money for anybody who don't make money for us!"

    Merry Christmas, NASCAR.

I couldn't agree more Rich. We'd rather drive 4 hours to Williams Grove than see a cup race.

and now today Petty enterprises released it's driver, Labonte and it looks like they might be nearing the end of the road.

    Very unfortunate.......and truly sad.

I haven't been to a NASCAR race since 1997 and quit watching them on TV when Toyota entered the scene. I don't miss it a bit.

If you didn't see, Ford is suing a popular message board about Ford Rangers (been around 9 years) over trademark infringement:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315953

Dude got a letter out of the blue saying to shut it down in 5 days AND pay 'em $5k or they'll sue!

    Is this what you're referencing?

Hmmmm...without factory $$$$$,if it goes that far, would we see the return of the real good old days?? Started listening to NASCAR on the radio about 62 or so,and would love to see some kind of return to what it once was...On a related note, how many kids actually build models anymore?? Or even have the patience to ??
I remember the Christmas I got SIX ( !!!!) AMT 3 in 1 models in the early 60s..Built every damn one of them for the next couple of days, one after the other.....went to bed one of those nights, couldn't sleep, yelled for Mom to "come here !"...told her I felt funny....
    ......
    ......

What is Nascar? And why would a traditional rod forum care about a company not making models on cars that have nothing to do with rodding?

You know, people would actually buy those! I suggest a series of licensed magazine cover cars... 50s Kustoms! God knows they probably already have molds of all the parts needed...

    ~Jason

  30. The licensing and trademark greed has gotten WAY out of hand!
I can think of two examples of the way it USED to be-

    1) Boeing handed Monogram all of it's plans & diagrams for the B17 (when Monogram showed interest in modeling it in 1/48) FOR FREE

    2) GM PAID Lionel a fee to make the 2333 Santa Fe F3 Warbonnet Diesel in O Gauge.

    My, how times have changed...
