I'd wouldn't have a problem with this car (I'm kind of tired of plugging the McMullen Roadster in the "best" threads). Don't forget to add Dick Hirschberg to the list of owners.

And the Ala Cart isn't a hot rod, it's a custom. Just my opinion.

For me there are far too many hot rods to possibly choose a single one as a favorite. I am a hot rod guy but I do appreciate customs. For me there are two at the top of my list - the first would be the Hirohata Merc. The second would be Billy Gibbons' Cadzilla.

Cadzilla might be too new and too modern for most folks here but I love the lines. When I first saw that car in Hot Rod, I was blown away. I still am.

HRP-you stole my thunder! yeah if I could own any hot rod it would have to be "Ol' Dad's" roadster. If there is poster child for the daily driver hot rod it's that one. And is there a more iconic custom than the Hirohata?Best color combo on a custom- EVER!

I`m old fashion. A Street Rod is a car made before 1949 that has been modified with an emphasis on horsepower and drivetrain(and wheels). Usually nosedown in the front. The Ala Kart and the Lil Coffin are street rods the have been heavily customized. My pic of customs would be the So Cal Plating Special.

Using the classic definition of a hot rod being 1948 or earlier, there was a '32 that was featured in the mags in the late 60's, that was a rootbeer brown, heavy chop, full fendered with Americans that just sat right. I don't recall the owner's name but I've seen it pop up around here once in a while. Seem to recall it claimed to have a 301 and powerglide, but it had a full hood.

For a custom, I'll have to go with this one:

I believe this is a recreation, as these pics seem to new and I believe the original was restored.

  13. Lots of great ones to pick from, to be sure. Ed Iskenderian's T was iconic; Norm Grabowski's Lightning Bug (later to become "Kookie's Kar") was probably the most influential of all time. As for Kustoms, the one which impressed me the most then and continues to do so now is Gene Winfield's Jade Idol. They just don't get any cleaner than that.

When I 1st laid eyes on this it was a black n white picture, a nailhead in place, dirt track tires, it just about punched me in the face.

If I were ever to own "somebody else's hot rod" this would be it and I'd change nothing but the name on the title. Like Don I always loved Gray's Deuce too but this is the one for me.
Kustom? Too many. Moonglow, the 1st version of the R&C Dream Truck, but I'd have to have this one that also just nailed nearly everything...

I could do with smaller diameter 5 spokes, but the roof and interior concept (originally a Steve Sanford creation) is pure genius. For an extra 100 bonus points, those who don't know the car, name the roof...?

I know it's too new, but Cadzilla for my custom choice, that spoke to me when it was built, and seeing it in person reinforced the feeling. Awesome lines.
For a hot rod driver, I would love Tom McMullen's first flamed roadster, as art, the SoCal coupe is my most desired

^^ I ended up with most of the parts of the '60 Plymouth that got cut up to build that Impala.

Isky's T is the first early hot rod that comes to mind for me,

And I'd take the Hirohata Merc as my custom, although I would probably have to constantly explain to clueless locals that no, it was not owned by the Emperor of Japan during WWII, so I wouldn't mind having the Merc from Rebel without a Cause just because it'd be a lot easier to explain to people what it is and it's significance. Plus, I like a mild Merc just as well.

I could actually have one of the cars on my list, it would probably be the Griepsma car with the Hemi...
