i like the article on mcmullens roadster where it describes the flames as old style, not seen much anymore(or something to that affect). and that was '63.
there is a club called dead man's curve out of north Jersey that has been doing 60's for at least 25 years. Straight tube axle, nose jacked way up, too much horsepower. Rich Conklin is the key guy, he started and runs radir wheels and also sells whitewall slicks. The have at least a dozen straight axle cars and more are being built. I wrote Hot Rod and Rod & Custom about this club and offered to do an article on them and 60's style but apparently it's far too happening for them to want an article on this very cool growing trend. You can see some of these cars, including a mile high blown Dodge 61 wagon with tube axle if you go to my website and go to pictures of cars at lead east and click on street machines and stockers. site is www.oldiesnostalgia.com. sorry, I don't know how to snag the photo and present it here because I have a coal powered 'puter and barely know how to run it. There aree also tons of Mercs and customs there for those who care. We had 92 1949-'51 Mercs at Lead East last year and this year are shooting for 100.
