not specifically vintage but fits the mid engine format, one of those turboed flat 6 porshe engines for the roadracing cars of the late 70's early 80's. Or fitting the auto Union Theme a turbo Audi Diesel. BMW also made some interesting v configurations engines in 8 ans 12's.

    how about a Bently v8

Blown Auburn as found under a porch.

Straight-8 Packards are easily available and cheapest. Get the big 9-main one from the early 50s. They are bullet-proof. Graham blowers are not expensive. Get two of them and mount them in sequence on the left side of the engine (the only slightly hard part is the machine work on the forward blower to run the coupling to the second blower). You will need a edmunds dual carb intake (or you could make your own).

Someone suggested a Porsche 928 engine. That might work with the German heritage/look and it being aluminum. I was hoping for carbs so I don't have to mess with computers though.

Removing Fuel injection shouldn't be a major crisis,
as long as the motor uses a distributor.

928s are not super popular,so a motor might be "reasonable".

Fladhead caddy engine. The top mounted exhaust might be kind of cool. I had tossed around the idea of building something like this with my 31 Chevy ch***is and a 235 with Side Draft Nicson intake. This is of co**** down the road because I don't have the money nor the skill to attempt it right now. Make sure you keep us posted.

I've tossed around the idea of using a Wisconsin V4 aircooled engine like often used in portable welders/generators. I think 3 of them somehow linked end to end would be pretty need looking with those finned heads sticking out the sides of a hood.

Another thought might be to look at some thing in the motorcycle world. A couple of Goldwing motors end to end for a boxer 12 perhaps?

Not cl***ic at all, but in the Auto Union family...

I was thinking a a pair of VW VR6s side by side. One forward and one backwards so all the exhausts would be on the outside. Coupling to the trans likely would be a bear.

If you want to be a little more out there, look at a pair of W8s from the current VW P***at, end to end. Ummmm... 16 cylinders.

Stay with the VW group and use the transaxle from an VW Quantum, Audi 5000, or the B5 (98-04 in the US) P***at.

That is all I think I know.

I'm pretty partial to the late '30's LaSalle motors. ca.'37-'38. They are just a pretty plain flathead V8, but they had alot of low end torq to pull a long lumpy rich turdmobile around. The exhaust comes out above the heads and is porclian coated from stock. I've seen two of these done up in rods w/custom zoomies on them, and they look SIK! Granted it's not a rare Offenhauser race motor, but it has that look that will make people scratch their head, and you can get parts for it. Other than that I'd look at '40's aircraft engines. They do adapt. They do have parts available, but I think you could do the caddy motor cheaper.

V-12's are high on the 'cool factor' regardless of brand. Jags are probably the cheapest, BMW will be pricey and you will need to deal with an intake. Or for something off the wall, how about the VW v-10 diesel??

Yup, a Jag V-12 would be the most available (cheapest), but some how an oil leaking, and ignition and generator that work only when the phase of moon is right (Lucas Electrics), limey motor in a 1930s Auto Union replica is just... wrong.

The BMW V-12 looks good, www.lambolounge.com/Ch***is/Engine/BMW-V12/BMW.asp

A Merlin or Allison is just too big for anything short of an all out LSR car, not to mention way serious coin. A DB601 or DB 605, are you kidding, a kidney wouldn't even cover a down payment. If they gutted you like a fish and sold all your organs you probably would still be short several payments. Not to mention you would have to figure out how to convert them for upright operation (an inverted Vee engine in a car is wrong).

How about a 215 Olds Turo Jetfire? Sweet all aluminum turbo charged, it would be ***s. Or an old straight 8 of some sort. What was the supercharger on that Packard engine in the video? and where can you get one?
