What is it about a 32 that makes us so crazy? Is the one year, is the prestige of owning one, or is the soul that these cars bestow. I have come across a trade deal on a 32 and just cant get sleep, get any work done, and am grumpy as hell. I love my 38, the history, the soul, everything it stands for, but then there is this 32 Coupe in the background staring at me. What is a man supposed to do when you get something and then something else you want comes along and sweeps you off your feet, something you have wanted in a long time. I just wish i was real rich and could just keep everything but I cant. So in this world what does a man do, keep the history or get what he wants. To the 32 owners is the thrill still there once you get one or is it just a fad. I never really thought I would ever own one especially this quick but I know my 38 makes me happy but it seams all i look at a show are 32's, I search ebay, local papers, etc looking for 32 stuff. I am torn yall please help me? I got this 38 to become a second ride a more family friendly ride that i could load the kis up in. And then the history unfolded and a true historical race car unfolded before the whold Hamb audience. Now I feel I cant do anything to the car but leave it as is or restore it to its race glory days. I dont need a race car so the second option is really out. What do yall think???????? The 32 is a historical car too

Dont get me wrong I love the 38. But it was never intended to be my only hot rod. It was gonna be my family ride. I have always wanted a 32 Coupe just did not think it would take getting rid of the 38 to do it. I love both cars that are involved but as I have been and sold some cars I have been trying to get closer and closer to a 32 as I could afford.

  6. Either way it goes you will regret it but you have always had your heart set on a 32 and heres your chance to make a dream a reality,I would do it.

Will you ever really know as much about the 32? You are close enough to the original builders of the 38 to carry on that spirit.

32s are becoming over rated and over valued with all the 75th anniversary hype.

I doubt you will encounter too many gl*** clones of the 38.

You really have something unexpected when it comes show time.

lastly, I might just have to come and take your birthday away if you really get rid of it!

from your last sentance, it sounds like your 38, a truely awesome car, really became what you weren't looking for when all this history unfolded.

I'm thinking your original intention was to have a nice cool ride that had a little more room for the family. Now you've either got a full race car, or an original rusty race car. That's all you would be happy with doing with that car.

    1. Either be happy that you found out so much history about that 38, but feel free to now make your own history in it, and do with it what you want.... (I read stories like that all the time in rodders)

    or

    2. Give it up to someone else who would want to restore it back to it's race days, and get that 32. It's what you've always wanted. The 38 was just a larger car for the family, but you weren't hunting 1938 Fords...

I say get the deuce. I've given up cars I was happy with because they were so unique in their history, but once I got something I wanted more, I was much more happy.

  9. I'd probably keep the '38 but I'm not all that thrilled with Deuces. I think it had to do with the fact that they were kind of a rich kid car when I was a kid.

But you are thrilled with Deuces so if i am really excited about 'em or not should have no bearing on what you do. I'll enjoy seeing you in a Deuce as much as the '38 so either way you're good.

They are the biggest of the old looking coupes so the old fat people that run hot rodding these days can fit easier that a t or a in the 40's they wern't as special as they are today

    Sorry to everyone offended

  13. Get the '32. It' painfully obvious that it's the car you really want & I think your gut is telling you this.

Are you gonna be kickin' yourself in the *** for years if you don't snag the Deuce? Answer that honestly and you're good to go.

    Now go get it!!

I have owned a 32 Ford Coupe of one type or another over the last 41 years, (In fact I just got back the Deuce 5 window I had in 1968,
I have been trying to get this car back sense 1973 !:D) I just have almost never been without one,....... ( huh sounds kind'a obsessive don't it ?)...... It's like in the movie "conspiracy theory" how Mel Gibbson doesn't feel complete without a copy of "catcher in the rye",........... ( looking at this ,.... I may have some problems I didn't know about:confused:) If you don't do it you can always tell the grandkids,.."Yep, I could'a had a real Deuce Coupe" they might even believe you !

Ok ill help.. a 32 coupe is way small compared to your 38 and im in michigan and i didnt install air .. its ****** hot too! Im 5'9" and in my 34 coupe i could put the seat all the way back and be comfy. Not in the 32.. I cut the package tray way back to get more leg room and it still aint enuff. Oh ya mine is gl*** but its still a 32! Then there is the cool factor.. 38's are fine cars but everyone asks stupid questions about my 32.. They never stop Im gettin used to saying ya its steel and 99k... :D:D:D Just kidding your steel guys..
Bottom line.. The 32 is prolly worth more than the 38 in finished form (how is the 32?) but its what ever you want. Screw the 75th anniversary **** that dont cut it. next it will be the 33 then the 34 then ........Heres what I did.. I started many years ago built and sold got divorced and sold:mad: Started again.. sold an all gl*** 34 for big bucks and it let me build the car of my dreams. An all new 32 3 window. Fun.,... ****in a .. I told the wife now i know why you like to shop. I shopped for 5 months and tried to get the best deal on everything. Fun Fun... If I had it to do over again ... Id do a 33 3 window hiboy.. Why.......... More room....
    My dime......

If you make the trade, do it because you like the car, not because it's a Deuce.

Each of the cars you've had since I've known you have allowed you to step up to something better... maybe the 38 is just another step? But the 38 is also a lot more family-friendly if you are really serious about bringing them along very much. And you have seemed more excited about the 38 than any previous car.

Is the 32 something you can put the Dirty signature on, or is it something that you need to keep true to the history it already has?

I think it's evident in the way you wrote that question that for you it's '32 or bust. It's cool that there's so much history in the 38, but you weren't looking for a historic '38 when you got it.

But what do I know? Like I said when I saw you boys on Saturday (that was cool, btw), I'd be doin' backflips over the old A roadster.

I have a '38 coupe, & a family, & unless you Dirtys are a bunch of Smurfs, a '38 coupe is no "family car". I also had a Deuce 5 window that served as my ONLY transportation for 3 or 4 years. I'm familiar with all three sides of your dilema.

Any old Ford has history. Most of it, for most old Fords, is just unknown. You can feel it though.

My advice, buy the Deuce. It's your dream car. Then if you're still all tore up over a '38, & need a family car, go buy a '38 sedan. You can get into a project for next to nothing or buy a running stocker for under 10K.

    Pull the trigger Dirty.

  20. rusty,
i dont think this is not all that hard a decision for you to make, i think you know in your heart you really want a deuce. i know the '38 is cool and has history and you will miss it, but at least you owned it for a while and brang it back to life for someone else to enjoy. you also say the '32 has history, so just start another chapter to your book of life. how about some details on the deuce.
    go for it.

Given your taste and talent you know that any 32 you build will be beyond cool...add in the fact that it is a 32 and I think you know what my vote would be. A deuce is a deuce, pretty hard to beat IMHO.

Man go for the'32, if you have seen it, driven it, etc. After a long trip in the '32 you will know why they made cars bigger. You will look cool and go fast in either.

Keep the 38'. It is what you have and you built it. 32's are like a#%-holes ....they all stink except yours.....LOL just jokin'. The 38' is Bad-*** and I am sure the 32' you would make that way but....whadda bout the family? I have a four door just for that reason. I am not rich and can't aford everything I want....so I go with what I need. Tough decision either way. If ya keep both then that is what I would choose....if not? I need my family to be happy:D

But as a **** stirring remark, I think your post will be pretty effective...

    haha!

Rusty... Would you rather have a gloss black poncho powered 38 with kick *** pinstriping...

...or a gloss black poncho powered 32 with kick *** pinstriping?

...and if they were both finished cars and in your driveway a few weekends ago, which one would you hop into and drive down to the Round Up in?

I think if that 38 and that 32 were sitting next to each other when you went to pick up that 38, and they were the same price, but you could only get one, you would have come home with the 32.

Life is all about stepping stones.

IMPORTANT QUESTION??? IS IT A 3 WINDOW or 5 WINDOW??
