you know you want to do it. there is no since making yourself sick over it. Each one of your cars has been better then the previous

  4. since when do yo need to ask us what you already know?????

  5. rusty,
maybe i am strange but i would not paint over that nostalgic old orange paint, because to me it then it is not the same old hotrod.

Life is too short to be wasting time with anything other than the pursuit and enjoyment your dreams (as it pertains to cars anyway, family and friends are way more important than inanimate objects). I don't understand why we often settle for something less than what we really want, we all do it.

I've wanted a 32 roadster since I was a snot nosed little kid. I finally scored one in my mid forties. The pursuit part is done and now I'm in the enjoyment phase which is every bit as satisfying.

I have purchased 3 other projects since then so, I guess it's not TOTALLY satisfying. :)

If you keep the '38 build it like you want it, don't feel like you have to preserve history. I have the remains of an old '50s east coast style '30 roadster, channeled 6" over a '32 frame. Everyone says put it back like it was, but it was just another old hotrod, nothing historically significant, and if I do that I will hardly ever drive it, so it will probably end up a highboy so I can get some use out of it.
Your old racecar is really cool, unique, everybody loves it, you got it going, drove it to Roundup, had fun with it, now move on. You are a very good builder, not a collector.
I would trade for the '32.

    Well...

Speaking as a five window owner. To me old time hot rodding. old time racing, old time cl***ic's. there is the 32 Ford coupe, the 33 and 34 Ford coupe, the 36 coupe, the 40 coupe, and the 49/50/51 Merc's.

I've had my 32 for about 6 years now. sold a 28 RPU, sold my up town 40 coupe last year, got a 29 Roadster on 32 rails to replace it. But I've still got my 32. Why? It's got nothing to do with the 75th aniversary, I had got it before there was a 75th aniversary, so that is not a factor.

The kids are long gone out of the nest. my Mrs. p***ed away in 2001, so it's just me and the 32 going down the road now. I've had a lot of cars over the years I'd like to have back, 58 Impala, 57 Olds convert with the j-2's. 60 Implala, 62 Ford convert with the 406. But they are all memories now. Do I regret having them, and now don't? I guess it's sort of like dying, if you go with no regrets, then you did it right.

My only advise here would be, will you become one of the...would of, should of, could of?

    Good luck on your decision.

Now that I have a 32 5window, I realize I REALLY want a 39 deluxe coupe....the 32 will be a stepping stone to a nice 39. But first, I gotta build the deuce and burn some rubber.

I don't know anyone who has ever sold a car or traded a car for a 32 ford and regretted doing it later. Buyers remorse is almost nonexistent with the 32 fords. I do know rodders who sat on their hands and did nothing when opportunity knocked. They had regrets for a long time. I like ALL the old cars and have owned at least a 100 different cars over the last 35 years. The only old cars I have now are 32 fords. Not because they are suppose to be cool or the top of the heap cars but because I love the way they were built and look. It took me about 30 years to figure this out.
The common affection for the ford 32's is nothing new. As long as I have been in hot rods they have always been at the top for desirability to a majority of hot rodders. I say go for the 32, you know its what you really want anyway.

I say go 32 if it's a good deal. If not keep the 38 and there will be more deuces to be had.

Owning a 32 is an ego trip for some guys who haven't had one and desire to be envied. Other guys want to be famous by owning any hotrod with history.
To me they are just another of many old cars that look cool.

If you are not going to "restore" the 38 to preserve that racing history, you would be kinder to let it go to someone who will. The 38 also isn't a perfect family hot rod,a two door sedan would be better.i say get the 32,the car of your dreams. Then pick up an affordable sedan later.

That 38 is sweet as Hell and should bring you alot of buying power with a 32 if you sell it. If the 32 is your dream car... Then do it ! You will always find a way to keep your hobby family oriented , you might just have to re-invent how you do that . On the other hand, how do you re-invent owning a deuce ? well ? g'luck . swaZZie

Swazzie...agree and disagree....family wants a 32 to cruise ...taking turns ridin' in and enjoy wrenching on it. Or a car that the family enjoys riding in together and wrenching on it. Let the family decide then work your personal preferences around that. I have a 70' Ironhead sporty that is a solo seater and chopped...not a family or S.O. friendly bike. Kids had fun wrenchin' on it with me and it was a cool bike but...when it came to br*** tacks, I let it go for the Buick I own know. Maybe when the kids are gone and I have gained a few more grey hairs I will get another personal vehicle ;) .

Heck, go 32...the 38 is almost modern in comparison.

  27. As far as my opinion, keep the 38. I don't give a **** about the 32's,"there everywhere at large events" but it seems thats what most people wan't or build due to the m***ive parts following....and they fetch big $$$$....

I'm 62 years old and I've owned over 100 cars. No brag, just fact. Of those 100+ there has been 6 '32 Fords. I now have 3 '32's (2 real, one fake Brookville). I sure would like to have the four that got away back. Get the '32.

I sure liked seeing your '38 at the roundup. It was something different, stood out and historical. I get bored with deuces. I think they are great looking and I'd have one if I could afford it, but at shows I p*** over most of them. I've spent a lot of time slowly working on my '49 and my big regret is that there are 50 of them in DFW alone. I'd love to own something as unique as your '38. I also understand your dilemma about the '38. I have a vette that is too rare to modify so there's no creativity involved it's just a by-the-book restoration...kinda boring.
