    Hi all!
So I bought this old car shell being told it’s a ‘29 dodge body (I honestly didn’t care what make it was as I just want to build a rod with the late 20’s/early 30’s shape), but now that I’m looking into it more, I can’t find a picture of a dodge with the same lines in it. It’s the swage line that comes up behind the rear most side window that has me confused, and I’m led the believe that dodges of that age had the drip rail above the windows welded to the body (I could be wrong). If anyone can enlighten me to what it is, it would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

  2. Thats a big one. Looks solid except that all the wood has been stripped out. How about a pic of the firewall and rear window. The window frames look pretty simple with no double reveals/swages. Last side window is symetrical which you don,t often see. Maybe it,s an Aussie built body which you probably won,t find using google. Could even be something British.

There’s the front, I’ll have to get a picture of the rear window in the morning. I’ve been told it might be a desoto too.

  4. I would say Desoto. Here,s a 1931 cowl. Your cowlband is missing, can see the holes though. Looks like you have plans for an extended pickup cab.

Those doors don't look right for that body. The belt line doesn't line up and the front door is the wrong width.

Of course they don't line up, the body is on blocks, the doors on the ground. You can see how much lower just by looking at the door top to body opening....

The rear door when you raise it so the belt line matches the wheel cutout will not fit as it fits now. The front door has a different profile on the belt line and the door top. The body has had the rain gutter removed, you can see the holes around the top of the rear quarter window where it lines up with the body line.

The body is a 1930 Plymouth as evidenced by no cowl lamp mounting holes.

I’m far from being an early Mopar expert but doesn’t a ‘31 Plymouth have a longer quarter window opening than the body shown? Thirty years ago a neighbor had a ‘31 Plymouth 4 door hot rod and it had an oval rear window which I believe the ‘30 also had. I’d be interested to see the rear window of the OP’s body. Post a photo of the back of the body if you can.

Yes....1931 Plymouths have a longer quarter window and an oval rear window. You can see that the car body in question has a rectangular rear window. Here is a 1930 Plymouth "U".... 1930 Ply U.jpg

All of the Chrysler product sedans had the drip rail.

Here is where my confusion comes in, the above photo is identified as a ‘30-U and the 1/4 window looks to be longer than what the OP has and more importantly the rear window is oval.
So the question is- where there two different 1930 Plymouth sedan bodies?

Yes, I believe there were two types of 1930 U bodies. The first series have the rectangular rear window and the later ones have the oval and continued the oval into 1931.

The front door is definitely off something else, it just came with the car. I posted about this on a Facebook forum too and the general consensus is that it’s a ‘29 Desoto.
