Back to the subject at hand... I thought I'd show the difference I was talking about between the two cowls: The mystery cowl meets the A pillar at a 45 degree angle, where the join on the Whippet is hidden behind a molding. In addition, the Whippet's window has a bead that is only a couple of inches above the molding, where the mystery shell has a taller flat section above its molding. The molding is easier to see in this pic:
